Hey! I’m offering Graphic Design help for small businesses that don’t want to participate in the AI slop taking over social media, print ads, flyers, banners, etc…
I studied some graphic design in college and over the last 5 years I have been the sole designer for my own business. Pictures included contain recent labels and a flyer I recently designed for a friend.
My goal is to offer a low-cost option for small businesses in order to reduce the amount of AI in your feed. Why?
Some facts:

AI data centers use the power equivalent of a small city to operate (50 MW). This power is provided by plants that produce excessive amounts of carbon and methane which are air pollutants.

One data center goes through 1-5 million gallons of water per day. There are currently lawsuits in CO, FL, and IA in regard to water depletion caused by data centers.

While the companies who own the data centers receive discounts on their power supply the regular consumers, which increases YOUR bill.

For a 2,000 acre property only 50-200 permanent jobs are created.

Generative AI scans the internet and steals original artwork to create its imagery. Thus stealing not only intellectual property, but actual work by creators on and off social media.

AI is often used for “deep fakes” spreading misinformation that undermines democracy and honest news outlets.

These are only a few examples of the negative aspects of AI. So, think about who you want to support. A handful of billionaires or the small businesses and artists you share a community with.

I can get into a lengthy discussion on the ups and downs of AI and I admit I even used it a couple times when it was taking off. While I did spend a lot of time customizing the results of whatever prompts I used to make them uniquely my own, I did my homework on the negative impacts towards artists, the environment, writers, and even the programmers themselves. We take pride in how we treat our customers and being environmentally conscious. So, as we all use AI to some level (social media, the internet, algorithms) it has become increasingly harder to avoid. We do what we can though. This includes banning any AI for our designs, labels, and/or marketing. My simple point is that, as the owner of a small business who could easily start using these tools, I wouldn’t be able to claim to be a conscious business owner at the same time.
AI has been a huge disappointment for folks investing in this technology. Let’s keep it that way.
