Calamityware

Calamityware Products based on the creatures found in Don's sketchbook. This page is where you'll find news about creating, producing, and using Calamityware.

Calamityware began when graphic designer, Don Moyer, inherited a traditional blue Willow-pattern plate and felt a urge to redraw it...and add a pterodactyl. Modern audiences are bored by tranquility and prefer the diversion of monsters, explosions, and car chases. As Don drew a series of plates, each spiced up with its own calamity, people who saw these drawings on Flickr asked for real plates. So

on a Kickstarter project was born and whimsical drawings became a growing collection of fine-quality porcelain plates.

Every Calamityware product has to start somewhere.

Usually, it’s something like this. A doodle. A sketch. A strange little idea that seems worth investigating.

Then comes the less glamorous part: figuring out what the idea wants to become. Dinnerware? Fabric? A mug? Something we haven’t made before? We make prototypes, move designs around, change our minds, make samples, stare at those samples for an unreasonable amount of time, adjust things, check quality, approve production, and eventually wait for boxes to make their way across the world.

Months later, something that started as a few lines on paper shows up at your door.

But before all of that, there’s just the drawing. And usually something in it that would like to eat you.

Some people get tattoos of their kids. Or a beloved pet. Or a meaningful quote. Not Calami-fans.

We always hoped our designs would leave a lasting impression...we just didn’t expect literal permanent ink.

Shoutout to the brave souls who looked at our monsters, mayhem, and mischief and said, “Yep. That’s going on my body forever.”

Sports ball season is upon us. It’s that magical time of year when friends gather around snacks and collectively pretend to understand what a “nickel package” is. Fortunately, you don’t have to understand the game to understand edible distractions.

Set the table with Troll Bowls for chips, TCBW Casserole Dishes for something involving cheese, melamine tableware for enthusiastically clumsy eaters, and serving trays for transporting provisions to people who refuse to leave the couch.

Whether your team wins, loses, or you forget which team you’re supposed to be rooting for, at least the table will look good.

Go….Sports!

A narwhal would never point at someone. Mostly because everyone would know exactly who they were talking about.

Good manners. Terrible anatomy.

“Narwhal Pointing Is Rude” shirts are available now in unisex and women’s cut.
