People often assume that because I’m an artist, painting a room should come naturally to me.
But painting art & painting walls are two completely different skills.
When I paint a canvas, I’m thinking about color, emotion, movement, and expression. If I make a mistake, sometimes it becomes part of the piece.
When you paint a wall, precision matters.
Straight lines matter. Coverage matters. Preparation matters. There’s a whole craft to making a room look beautiful and professional.
One isn’t “better” than the other.
They’re just different.
An artist can admire the skill of a house painter. A house painter can admire the creativity of an artist.
Every craft has its own learning curve, its own challenges, and its own kind of mastery.
There are many ways to create beauty in the world.
We spend so much energy avoiding failure, avoiding embarrassment, avoiding the possibility that something won’t work.
But growth lives there.
Creativity lives there.
Life lives there.
So if you’re trying something new,
Give yourself permission to make a mess.
The mess doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
It means you’re doing it.
