Show up for the living. Celebrate the moments, make the trip, and let your people feel your love while they’re here to receive it.

I’m off to a wedding this Labor Day weekend.

This showed up in your kitchen. What’s your next move?

These two have been a pair long enough. I finally moved saltfish in. Yummm!!!

Here’s how I did it:

Recipe;

Milk bread dough
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm milk (I used heavy whipping cream. If you’re using regular milk, use 3/4 cup butter)
2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
3 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 egg
Dough:
Mix dry ingredients, then add warm milk and egg. Mix, then knead in butter until smooth and slightly tacky.
Cover and let rise until doubled (about 1–1.5

Saltfish Filling
Saltfish (codfish), soaked overnight or boiled to remove excess salt
Oil
A little turmeric
Onions
Parsley
Sweet peppers (optional)
Hot pepper (optional)
Filling:
Shred the saltfish.
In a pan, heat oil, add turmeric, onions, parsley, and peppers.
Sauté, then add saltfish and cook until everything comes together.

Shape + Stuff
Roll the dough flat with a rolling pin.
Fold one side over the other.
Cut ½ inch strips along the folded edge.
Pull each strip into the next to create a braid.
Open the braid, fill with the saltfish, then close and seal it back.

Bake
Place on a baking tray, let it rest for 30–45 minutes.
Bake at 350°F until golden (about 25–30 minutes).

Mission accomplished: I owed Ronan his promised birthday meal, and apparently birthday debt collects interest. I delivered a day late, but look… I’m just out here trying to keep this kid happy and well fed! Thanks all for the birthday wishes for him. This kid is a Happy teenager!

No birthday breakfast in bed because the birthday boy was away at a school retreat. No favorite homemade dinner when he got home because Mom was working late and ran out of time. 😩 So, Plan C: take the growing teenage boy to a Brazilian steakhouse and let them keep bringing meat until he surrenders.

Happy 14th Birthday, Ronan! Our soft-spoken, sweet, technical whiz. We love watching him create, figure things out, and quietly do his thing. We’re just so happy to have him around. ❤️❤️

Our baby boy… even though he’s now taller than three of us.

We plantain lovers know there’s no such thing as too many ways to enjoy them. Sharing one of my favorites: green plantains, spiraled and deep fried until crispy.
