Desiring the "hands on" instead, Robert continued to work in the boatyard, building traditional wooden sail boats, until starting his own yacht repair business in 1971, which he later sold before moving to Sarasota, Fl in 1983, where he then opened his shop Finishing Touch Studio. His business covers a wide spread area in Southwest FL, where he specializes in `Olde World` Craftsmanship of furniture restoration and repair, not only for residential, but also commercial business accounts such as banks, law firms and moving companies and marine accounts. Robert not only repairs and restores the woods natural beauty to your cherished antiques, but to also modern day furniture and does exceptional work on grand and player pianos. At Finishing Touch Studio he designs and builds custom wood furniture, using custom finishes, from wood stains to faux, marble and contemporary finishes with lacquer or polyester finishes, hand rubbed to hi-gloss/polished. Being an excellent shipwright he does custom yacht work, including structural damage and repairs, refurbishing, interior woodwork, including glass and gelcoat repairs.
