Wooden spoon care!

Did you know that you can oil and burnish your dry, worn wooden spoons? We lead a “spoon spa” at the craft cafe* last month. If the wood is looking fuzzy you can burnish it with a smooth stone or piece of deer antler. If it’s looking dry, apply a polymerizing oil such as Flax Seed, Grape Seed, or Walnut oil. Use a cotton cloth to apply a thin coat and allow to dry for a few days.

We oiled and burnished these well loved spoons. Check out the before and after results!

*On the first Sunday of each month, Farmhouse Pantry in Saranac hosts Craft Cafe. There’s always space for new crafters!

These two little keepsake birch bark containers started as an illustrative prop for the Show & Tell at the Strand Center for the Arts last month. The completed canisters now reside on the dressers of Jason’s two new Grand Nieces.

Think about ways you can incorporate hand crafted items into your home.

This custom order was requested by one of our long-time customers. She wanted hand carved stir sticks to use with her special set of pitcher and glasses. I hope they bring her much joy!

Finally made some time for our first bit of crafting in the new year! We were commissioned to make a few birch bark canisters for some very special gifts.

The body of these canisters are made from a single sheet of birch bark formed with interlocking tabs cut on the ends. Once the tube is formed, a wooden base and tappered lid is made to carefully fit the openings. Add some accent bands around the rim and base and a hand carve k**b to the lid and....Voila, a beautiful set of bark canisters are born.

Commissions always welcomed!
