A window. A doorway. That's all that survived this remodel.

Everything else changed when this kitchen expanded into the home's new addition, cabinetry now runs floor-to-ceiling, and the layout finally has room to breathe. A rich cognac finish on the lower cabinets pairs with a lighter Frost above, while a bold, gold-veined island stone gives the whole space its focal point.

There’s a specific kind of joy in knowing every single thing in your kitchen has somewhere to go. No searching, no shuffling, no piles that migrate from counter to counter. Just calm, considered order.

It’s not really about the drawer, or the counter, or the pantry. It’s about walking into a kitchen and feeling like you can use it the way it was intended to: without a second thought. Reaching for exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. A kitchen where everything has a home is one less thing competing for your attention, and one less obstacle between you and whatever you’re actually trying to make.

That’s the whole point of smart storage: order that works for you, not the other way around. Not because a perfectly organized drawer fixes everything, but because it’s one less thing standing between you and feeling like your home is actually yours.

Most storage hides. This wall does the opposite.

Veined marble climbs floor to ceiling, uninterrupted except for the open shelving built into it, where a few carefully chosen pieces get room to be seen. White cabinetry with brass hardware sits below, light enough to keep the marble the focal point but tactile enough to hold its own.

Every inch of it is working. It just happens to look like a gallery wall.

Storage doesn't have to be an afterthought, and it doesn't have to look like one either.

10 feet by 7 feet.

That’s the entire footprint our team had to work with, and somehow, it still holds a refrigerator, range, dishwasher, sink, washer, and dryer.

KSI Designer Rose Kokali took on the challenge room by room. This basement kitchen also had to double as the home’s laundry room, all while working around a sump pump and other mechanical constraints that couldn’t move. Rather than relying on standard-sized appliances, every single one was evaluated individually for clearance, function, and fit.

The result is a kitchen that does everything a full-size one does, just in a fraction of the space.

The reveal, and the renders that led to it.

“Seeing this project move from rendering to reality was especially rewarding,” says KSI Designer Wes Boggs. “It’s one thing to picture the range wall or the bar’s dark, tiled niche on a screen, but watching that light play across the real maple and quartz, in a home that looks out over the lake, is the whole reason I love this work.”

A render gives you a clear sense of layout, scale, and material direction long before a single cabinet is installed. But part of what makes design collaborative is that a room can keep evolving as it comes together, and that’s the process working exactly as it should.

The render introduces the idea. The finished space brings it to life.

Empty, it's just a cabinet. Full, it's the reason cooking feels effortless.

Smart storage, like this pull-out utensil organizer, keeps everything exactly where your hand expects it to be. No searching while you're cooking, no mismatched tools thrown in wherever they fit; just the right one, right where you reach for it.

It looks simple, but that's because it was designed to be.

Great appliances don’t have to announce themselves.

In this new construction home, an entire refrigerator wall was built to look like furniture, a full-size refrigerator, freezer drawers, and pantry storage, all hidden behind custom panels that blend seamlessly into the cabinetry. Proof that great design can make an impact without ever raising its voice.

That kind of integration is what happens when appliances are part of the plan from day one, not an afterthought.

One tile choice, and the whole bathroom changed.

A geometric tile climbs the shower walls in crisp, repeating pattern, the kind of detail that anchors an entire room instead of quietly blending into it. Set against a frameless glass enclosure with minimal hardware, the tile is left to do all the talking, no bulky framing, no competing finishes, just clean lines and pattern given the space to breathe.

Some islands are purely functional, others double as art.

A quartz in soft cream, threaded with smoky gray veining, wraps this island in a continuous, mirrored pattern that moves across the surface like brushstrokes. The single-level slab keeps the silhouette clean, letting the stone's pattern do all the talking.

Sometimes less is more.

When this homeowner came back to KSI Designer Wes Boggs to remodel their lakefront cottage, she wanted an island. After learning how her family actually uses the space, Boggs suggested leaving it off the list instead. Once the project wrapped, there was no talk of adding one.

Light stained maple cabinetry keeps the kitchen bright and easy, while a moody, Onyx-painted bar just steps away shifts the atmosphere entirely. That same light, cohesive treatment carries through the pantry, primary bath, and powder room.
