⚠️🌪️ TORNADOES, 2”+ HAIL & 70+ MPH WINDS POSSIBLE ACROSS MINNESOT TOMORROW 🌪️⚠️
Alrighty guys, I’m keeping a pretty close eye on the severe weather potential for tomorrow, Thursday, September 3rd. The area I highlighted in green on the graphic is the main area I’m focusing on right now, stretching from eastern North Dakota through much of Minnesota and into western and central Wisconsin.
There is the potential for a VERY unstable atmosphere to develop by tomorrow afternoon and evening. Some of the latest guidance is showing CAPE climbing into the 3,000 to 4,000+ J/kg range, with locally even higher values possible. At the same time, around 40 to 50 knots of deep-layer wind shear could be available. If storms are able to develop in this environment, they could become quite intense.
⚠️ The main possible hazards within the highlighted area include:
🌪️ A few tornadoes
🧊 Very large hail, potentially 2 inches or larger
💨 Damaging winds, potentially 70+ mph, with some stronger gusts possible
There is still quite a bit of uncertainty regarding exactly WHERE storms develop tomorrow afternoon and evening. A cap may initially suppress thunderstorm development, and relatively subtle disturbances will likely determine where storms are finally able to break through it. Because of that, the exact placement of the greatest severe weather threat could still shift.
If storms remain more isolated, supercells capable of very large hail and tornadoes would be possible. If storms grow together into a larger complex, the damaging wind threat could become more prominent.
The Twin Cities Metro is included in the area I’m watching, but this is definitely not locked in yet.
And remember, we are still MORE THAN 24 HOURS AWAY from this potential event. Plenty can change between now and tomorrow, especially the exact placement, timing and magnitude of the severe threat. I’ll continue watching the newest computer model runs and will have additional updates as we get closer. 🌪️🧊💨
