Oct. 13, 1917, marked the last Marian apparition in Fátima, a day on which thousands of people bore witness to the miracle of the dancing sun. Mary had appeared to three children on the 13th of each month. She asked them to offer sacrifices for sinners and pray the Rosary daily.

Our family is so blessed to live near the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre De Dios! It is always a stop during a day trip to St. Augustine. Our visits usually include lighting a candle, strolling the grounds chasing squirrels and the occasional peacock, visiting the chapel of course, and looking for dolphins next to the tall cross. We also walk the stations of the cross and visit the walking rosary. We feel such a sense of peace and comfort in the “Sacred Acre”. The graces Our Lady of La Leche and her Child have poured onto our family are immeasurable!

Today, we remember all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and we hold in prayer their families, loved ones, first responders, and all who continue to carry the wounds of that day.

May God grant eternal rest to those who died, strength and consolation to those who mourn, and peace to our nation and our world.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.
