Thinking of replacing your flooring? LVP is a very popular choice these days. Did you know there are several types? We have them both!
The main difference comes down to the core material inside the plank. Both are fantastic, 100% waterproof variations of LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank), but they are built to handle completely different types of environments.
Think of it this way: SPC is built for extreme durability and impact resistance, while WPC is built for maximum underfoot comfort and warmth.
THE CORE DIFFERENCES
SPC (Stone Plastic Composite)
The Core: Made of natural limestone powder, polyvinyl chloride, and stabilizers. It is dense, rigid, and completely solid.
The Feel: Very rigid and hard underfoot. It feels similar to walking on tile or concrete because there is zero "give" to the plank.
SPC is Best For: High-traffic commercial spaces, homes with heavy furniture, or rooms prone to temperature swings (like sunrooms).
The Big Advantage: It is incredibly dent-resistant. If you drop a heavy tool or a cast-iron skillet on it, it won't leave a mark. Because it's so rigid, it also hides minor subfloor imperfections (like telegraphing grout lines or uneven spots) much better.
WPC (Wood Plastic Composite)
The Core: Made of recycled wood flour, plastics, and a foaming agent. This foaming agent introduces tiny air pockets into the core.
The Feel: Softer, warmer, and much more forgiving underfoot. It has a slight resilience to it that makes it comfortable to stand on for long periods.
Best For: Residential spaces where you want comfort, such as kitchens, bedrooms, and basements.
The Big Advantage: Excellent sound absorption and insulation. Walking on it is much quieter than SPC, and it doesn't hold onto the cold, making it feel warmer on bare feet. However, it is softer, meaning it's slightly more susceptible to dents from heavy objects or dropped items over time.
