VINTAGE 101 LESSON:
Let’s talk about SHINY BRITE! These masterpieces originated in the late 1930s in Germany by ornament maker Max Eckardt. To make them last longer and keep them shinier than other ornaments on the market, he coated the glass with silver nitrate. At the beginning of World War II, Eckardt moved company to America and success soon followed. Because they were so popular he partnered with Corning Glass Company to keep up with demand. In 1939 alone, Woolworth’s ordered 235,000 ornaments—and sold them for just two cents each. By the mid 40s, SB was producing 300K ornaments per day! And the trend continues ❤️
