Just about done. Need to knock off the tenon on the. Bottom and a little sanding and friction finish and odies oil to go. This is a peice of Rainbow Poplar that has a smell of a bourbon barrel before the finish was applied. Hope you find it nice!

Making a lot of progress on the shop - organizing, reorganizing, adjusting tools to allow for a better workspace. My problem is that I need more room and can’t seem to part with even the smallest piece of scrap wood.

This is an 8 1/2” cottonwood bowl. Notice the amazing grain on this. I added a few photos of the process and will upload a few videos shortly. This is bowl #5. It took the oil right in so it will need a few more coats.

This is a lovely 6” hand carved bowl made from Mora. Mora is known as Guatemalan Tigerwood, Nora, Dakama, or Pracuuba. It is a very heavy and hard wood with outstanding strength properties. It is particularly resistant to wear. This material stains & polishes well, and is particularly beautiful for boxes due to the nice polish that is easily attainable. The heartwood varies from chocolate-brown to reddish brown. The grain is straight to commonly interlocked, producing an attractive wavy or sometimes ribbon figure. Specific Gravity averages .78 based on oven-dry weight. The tree grows 2-3 feet in diameter and 100-120 feet in height.

Our first bowl! This is made from Chakte Viga. Chakte Viga is a tropical hardwood from Mexico. The heartwood color varies slightly from pale to rich reddish orange. Chakte Viga is sometimes referred to as Paela. The grain is typically straight, but can be interlocking. It is reported to have good tonal qualities and is popular in both instrument building and wood turning. The wood can darken with exposure to light.

A little time out in the shop this morning with some scraps of walnut. Here we have a bottle stopper that also is a shot glass! This has burned lines, burnished cup and is highly polished. Will need to move to oak next time…
