“I’m no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I’m changing the things I cannot accept.” ~ Angela Davis

Dismantling a broken system takes more than a night, a week or even a year. It requires conscious, constant and considered choices to rewire the unconscious bias ingrained in many of us from birth. From protesting, to educating, to campaigning, to liberating...this is a marathon, not a sprint. And a lot of that work must start from within. We have to face some ugly truths, sit in that discomfort and demand change so another generation doesn’t have to. As a white woman, it is my duty, my honor, my responsibility to use my privilege to elevate melanated voices and stand next to Black, Indigenous and People of Color as we tear down and rebuild a society where equality actually means equal for all.

This Black Lives Matters pattern uses glow in the dark thread as an outline to amplify the message. I wanted to design something that could provide a glimmer of hope when things seem impossible even in the darkest of nights.
