I have been so busy this summer working on projects in the garden and backyard. I figured I could share a few here. This shelf is one project I didn't know if it was worth a redo. If you follow me, you may have seen that I makeover things rather than toss them whenever possible. I have kept it for many years, and I even enjoyed its change to a rustic look. As I started getting my garden ready this year, I pulled the shelf out and realized it might have seen it's had its last season.
As a small business this is a very good testimony for shopping small. A retired man started a small business in his driveway with lots of different benches and shelves for your yard and garden. I stopped by and immediately bought it. Now close to 20 years later in the Oregon wet weather, I was shocked to find out that most of the wood was in great shape. Only the shelf that held the plant and the shelf below were bad. Things built with quality materials and made to last are often what you get from handmade products.
I can't find a good picture of it new, but originally it had some decor, that was gone now. I decided if I was going to redo it, I was going to give it some extras. So after paint, I refilled the birdhouse holes with moss. I painted and textured a 3D star and windmill blade to look a rusty orange/brown & attached them. I added a metal cutout of the word "welcome" after I painted and sealed it.
Lastly, I have several frogs in the garden. They are all Mother's Day day and birthday gifts from my kids. So, as long as they don't fall apart, I will continue to redo and paint them because they are the heart of my garden. The hunk of wood behind the frog is a slice of the climbing tree my kids spent hours and hours in growing up. It got too big and unfortunately had to be removed. I kept it to honor all the love my family had for this amazing tree
