Join us on June 4 for the opening of an exclusive fundraiser featuring works by local artist Serafine Lilien.

Serafine created this collection to honor elephants’ matriarchal family structures and to raise awareness about their precarious future.

This herd of off-white, tusk-colored ceramic sculptures deliberately lack tusks as a symbol of what’s being taken from them—both literally (by poaching for ivory) and figuratively (by habitat loss and exploitation).

As the artist explains: “Sculpting these animals is my way of urging viewers to see elephants as wild, sentient beings that deserve space, freedom, and respect rather than entertainment or captivity.”

Elephants face steep declines: roughly 415,000 wild African elephants and 40,000–50,000 wild Asian elephants remain, and both species confront poaching, habitat loss, and climate-related pressures. Some elephants are now born without tusks, an alarming biological change whose causes are still being studied; meanwhile, demand for ivory continues to drive violence and hardship in communities where people have few alternatives to poaching.

20% percent of the fundraiser’s proceeds will go to two organizations that rescue, care for, and rewild orphaned elephants and protect wild lands: Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Reteti Elephant Sanctuary.

Opening Reception: June 4, 5-8pm

Get ready for Stephanie Brockway's giant bees!!!

Here is a sneak peek with a few details of the 11 giant bees that are about to fly into our installation spaceto create "Plight of the pollinator"

With more than 3,500 native species, bees help increase crop yields. Scientists estimate that one out of every three bites of food we eat exists because of pollinators like bees, butterflies, moths, birds, bats, beetles and other insects.

As PDX artist Stephanie explains: "Their contribution is significant! Imagine there is no such thing as w**d. Everything blooming in your yard has a purpose, even dandelions! Beautiful, nutritious and an important source of nutrition, for both bees and humans. Never spray a flower where a bee will land. Consider alternatives like vinegar and salt. Let's work in harmony with nature – and keep blooming!"

Made from found objects and oddities, including giant tin globes, metals, wood, glass & salvaged scraps, the bees in this installation are intentionally larger in scale, to make viewers feel smaller, while encouraging playful reflection and questioning.

Come meet our awesome bees at our opening reception on June 4 (5-8pm) or during normal opening hours after that!

Stephanie and I partnered to donate 20% of proceeds to three awesome local bee organizations:

Xerces Society Pollinator Conservation
Portland Urban Beekeepers
Portland Metro Beekeepers Association

They say that it takes a village and how true that sounds!

Thank you .eichenberger , .art and for helping me yesterday and thank you for gifting me this awesome wall on wheel that is now happy inside the gallery!

We feared this would be a very hard task yet it went super smoothly and in the process we even managed to entertain the neighborhood as we wheeled this massive wall between galleries.

Look at my over ecstatic expression 😂 😂 😂

I know I said it before yet I'll say it again: I love my new neighborhood and neighbors! The Pearl District is awesome and I'm delighted to be part of this community!

Join us on June 4 for the opening "Logo Stuff" - a solo show featuring local artist Quire (aka Leah Hugon).

Scientists have found that, even in the most desolate of urban settings, when left to their own devices extinct native plants will return home.

In this new series, Quire continues to explore themes around our connection with, and divorce from, nature.

These works feature paintings of contemporary commercial properties, some vacant and some occupied, bordered by the plants that would have thrived in these specific locations. The plants not only grow in these places but they also provide functions similar to those of the buildings that have displaced them. A closed pharmacy is paired with Mullein, a plant with several medicinal uses, native to the region and just waiting for its gifts to be received.

Quire invites the viewer to learn about the plants in her work, to discover their gifts, resilience and wisdom, while pondering our choices as a society and where they have led us.

Opening Reception: June 4, 5-8pm
Artist Talk: June 6, 2pm

The show will run through June 27.

Imperfecta hours:
Wednesday to Saturday from 11am to 5pm
- Except first Wednesday (closed) and first Thursday (open 5-8pm)

Imperfecta Gallery is at 809 NW Flanders St, Portland OR

Sneak preview!

Join us on June 4 for the opening of "A Manageable Paradox" featuring local artist Erin R. Grant.

Erin is interested in the visceral materiality of the body and the uneasy boundaries that we (humans) maintain with the natural world. Through her practice and by leveraging diverse mediums, she conceptually explores the crossing, the blurring and the elimination of such artificially constructed boundaries.

In this collected body of work, Erin has captured moments of liminality: bodies eviscerated and unfurled to flora and fauna, the fragility of exposed flesh to feral specimens, and the fervent dread of the self's collapse into nothingness.

The title of this exhibit reflects the artist's aim to create a moment of beautiful equilibrium from chaotic disintegration. Through drawings, paintings, and sculpture Erin R. Grant strives to capture a moment of aesthetic stability in the continuous entropy that permeates our corporeal existence. In addition to conjuring beauty from decay, she has also imbued her work with a sensitive humor drawn from revulsion. By balancing temporal levity against inexorable obliteration, the art in this exhibit depicts a manageable paradox.

The show debuts on June 4, with an Opening Reception from 5 to 8pm.

Gallery Opening Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm – EXCEPT first Wednesdays (closed) and first Thursdays (open 5-8pm only).

The gallery is located at 809 NW Flanders st, Portland OR.
