It’s been over two months since our office took a trip to Palm Springs (or as we like to say, Palm Spraaaangs) and it’s taken us that entire time to digest, absorb and recover! We had the absolute best time!

Palm Springs offers an annual Modernism Week each February, celebrating the area’s midcentury architecture and design. It’s long been on our bucket list to visit and we finally decided to take a well deserved break and book it. Fortunately we had a local guide in Bonney as she was raised in the area. Ryan’s sister, Dana, also flew to Palm Springs to join the fun.

Check out our latest post on the website (link in bio) where we share our Palm Springs part one highlights. Including our visits to the Royal Hawaiian Estates, Turkel Design Desert House, Edris House and a tour of the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood!

Such a fun trip!

Undergoing a renovation is an exciting milestone, but it can feel extremely overwhelming. At Wise Design, we understand! To help our clients understand what it is like working with us, we created a blog series dedicated to exploring each phase of the design process and why each one is so important.

Successful design begins with a strong foundation. During the first stage of your project, the Project Preparation Phase, we take time to understand how you live and what you love. We also take a detailed survey of your space (or site), by gathering photos and measurements so we can accurately capture the site conditions your new design will be built upon. Even though you are excited to get going or if your contractor has availability in a month or if you dream of having it all ready for the holidays, it is so important to not rush your project. A renovation is a long term investment and your home deserves the care and attention necessary for a well-thought out, detailed design.

Head over to the new post on our website (link in bio) for more info on this very important step in our design process. Stay tuned for more post in this series as well!

I love when clients aren’t afraid to take some chances! Check out this nearly finished basement family room we have been working on. Our team designed some beautiful shallow built-ins to add warmth (and storage!) to this space. Our client (an expert thrifter) found some KILLER vintage chairs that we had reupholstered in a beautiful bright velvet. And to make sure their family is EXTRA comfy, we had a custom distressed leather sectional made by our friends at Perch. We always love to add something unexpected in our designs, so to make this space extra unique, we added some graphic wallpaper to the ceiling!

As all of our furnishing clients know, we only like to source sofas from one place: . A fantastically made (in the US) sofa with custom options like sizing, style, upholstery, height, fill, legs, etc all with incredibly accessible pricing? We’re in.

Every single sofa we create with Perch is our new favorite (until the next one!) Here’s a round up of a few we’ve designed over the years!

Nothing makes a space feel more like a home than art on the walls. For the next in our FAQ series (see how to hang curtains and how to style shelves), we thought we would discuss another common query: where do I buy art and where/how should I hang it?

Art is SO personal. What speaks to me may not speak to you. Art worth owning has a backstory: it speaks of your loves, interests, travels, funny stories, friendships.

But where to find art? The short answer is everywhere! Art is everywhere! Stopping in at your local coffee shop for your weekly chai? Look on the walls. Chances are that a local artist is displaying some of their pieces for sale. School fairs, holiday fairs, art fairs, neighborhood street fairs, shops, galleries small and big, have exhibits with fantastic artists, often locally based.

Check out the post for more tips & tricks on hanging art & where to find art. (Link to post in the bio).

Introducing the project!

Wise Design was brought on to help with this single family home, transforming a blast-from-the-past cabin into a modern home. Collaborating with and construction by .work, we focused on the public spaces of the home: the kitchen, dining nook, living room and entry. Our client wanted the space to feel as open as possible so a striking new double-sided fireplace was centered between the kitchen and living room. In the kitchen, knotty pine trim and cabinetry were removed with the layout completely reworked to accomodate a mix of new and modified cabinetry. The updated design combined rift-sawn white oak and painted cabinets, with the existing lower cabinetry modified to accommodate soft-close drawers and refinished to match the new casework.
