Final exams are officially wrapped for our Summer History of Furniture term at PCC! Answers on exam are not included.
While the classroom gives us the framework, the real magic happens out in the wild. Whether it was tracing the architecture of Antoni Gaudi or the Barcelona Pavillion in Barcelona, exploring Porto, or taking in the architecture and musueums of London this August, travel remains the ultimate design classroom.
To all our students: keep your eyes open, seek out the details, and never stop finding history in the wild. Enjoy the break!

Meanwhile, while the whole world is flocking to La Sagrada Família, We have been drawn to Casa Vicens ever since our local friends ,William Anthony who live in Barcelona let us stumble upon it in the dark after late-night tapas and cocktails two years ago.
We've been obsessed with it on Instagram ever since. Finally, we saw it and experienced it. Casa Vicens by Gaudí Barcelona did not disappoint. Our favourite room was the peacock blue tiled and papermache ceiling of the smoking room. We are taking a break in the covered outdoor porch. Stay tuned. More later.

As William Blake noted, “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear... infinite”—though a good coat of paint helps too.

Iberian doors—from Gaudí’sj japanese inspired geometry motifs at Casa Vicens to Moorish arches are artistic rebels. Like the mal de ojo, they hide a deeper sanctuary within.

In striking contrast, London offers sleek, standardized sophistication. Georgian townhouses form a brilliant uniform of gleaming black doors and white stucco, where repetition is design. Then finally the grand doors to Westminster Abbey offers another sanctuary within.
What beyond those doors?

While going for a stroll down the footway in Pimlico, true drama begins at the stoop. Beneath grand Regency townhouses, Neoclassical columns, and polished Portland stone,inkblack highgloss doors and checkerboard mosaics set the stage for high-society ambition.
As evening falls, high society retreats, leaving curious minds to enjoy nighttime window shopping past the illuminated vitrines of legendary design houses like Robert Kime and Nina Campbell.

Totality on the open Atlantic! Words fail to capture the magic of witnessing a total solar eclipse from the deck of a cruise ship near A Coruña, Spain. For those precious moments, the world changed—the temperature dropped, the horizon glowed, and the stars came out in the middle of the day. Standing in the shadow of the moon off the Spanish coast was an absolute gift and an unforgettable core memory unlocked with some of my favorite people.
