CANDLE TIP: The ideal burn of a container candle will leave a small amount of wax on the inner walls as it burns. This will result in increased surface area of heated wax, which maximizes scent throw. If there is no residual wax clinging onto the inner walls, the candle is burning too hot and likely inhibiting scent throw. In this case, either too big of a wick was selected by the maker for the wax/container combination, or the wick is too long and should be trimmed. If the melt pool is creating a crater in the wax, leaving a thick wall of wax on the inner walls (cratering), the wick may be trimmed too short or the candle maker selected a wick that is too small for the wax container combination (under wicked). Here are some photos of a well balanced container candle at the end of its burn.
