Something you may not know about Milo the Mockingbird… 🖤

His story was inspired by something I wish every child understood, especially my two kiddos!

I wrote Milo for the little girl who comes home from school wondering why someone doesn’t like her.

For the little boy who starts changing things about himself because someone made him feel different.

And for the parents who wish they knew exactly what to say to make it better.

The truth is, we can’t protect our children from every unkind word. As much as we’d like to, we won’t always be there when someone says something hurtful.

But we can teach them that those words don’t define who they are.

That’s why I wrote Milo the Mockingbird: A Woodsland Story.

I wanted to create a story that parents could read with their children before those difficult moments happen. Something they could come back to when they need a reminder that being different doesn’t mean being less.

Just a little girl with a dream. 🖤

When I was little, I had a lot of dreams: owning a bakery, becoming a lawyer, and writing a book. Somewhere along the way, life happened. I grew up, became a wife and mother, and tucked some of those childhood dreams away.

But I never really stopped being that little girl.

And now, more than 30 years later, I’m getting ready to publish my very first children’s book.

I wish I could tell her that one day, she’d write a story inspired by her own children. That the little girl who loved stories would someday have one of her own to share with the world.

I think she’d be pretty proud of us. ✨
