Some dogs arrive at the shelter with a collar, a name, and a history. Lunar arrived with none of those answers.

We don't know where his story began. We don't know who he belonged to, how long he had been on his own, or why no one came looking for him.

What we do know is what his body told us.

At approximately one year old, Lunar came to Moyer Animal Shelter underweight and malnourished, with his ribs visibly protruding. From what we could piece together, this young black Lab had likely been wandering around the Powell area for some time.

For a dog barely out of puppyhood, he had already learned that the world could be an uncertain place.

But here's the remarkable thing about Lunar: He still wants to trust it. Put a leash on him and head outside, and that nervous shelter dog starts to come alive. His nose hits the ground and suddenly there is an entire world that needs investigating. Every patch of grass has a story. Every new smell deserves a thorough inspection. Walks aren't just exercise for Lunar, they're an adventure. And he loves an adventure.

He's also discovering that humans come with some pretty strange rules. Apparently we're supposed to walk nicely instead of charging toward every interesting smell. We're learning that one. Apparently sit is a thing. We're working on that too. 😂

Lunar is eager to please and incredibly quick to learn. Every day, we're watching him put another little piece of the puzzle together.

There are still things that worry him. Moving vehicles can make him uncertain, and right now he is more comfortable trusting women than men. We don't know what experiences taught him to be cautious, so we're not going to rush him.

Instead, we're showing him something different.

•A leash can mean an adventure.
•A hand can mean kindness.
•A person can be someone who stays.

And a dog who once wandered without anyone looking out for him can finally have an entire community standing behind him.

Sponsor MERIDA 👇

Merida’s story didn’t begin with someone walking through our doors carrying a tiny kitten in their arms. It began with a trap.

A community member had spotted a little calico living as a stray. She was young, alone, and far too unsure of people to simply scoop up. So a trap was set, and eventually curiosity, or perhaps a questionable decision involving food won.

Inside was one very small, very unimpressed calico. That was Merida’s ticket off the streets and into Moyer Animal Shelter.

At only about three months old, Merida had already learned to rely on herself. And she hasn’t completely surrendered that independence just because she now has room service.

She isn’t aggressive. She’s simply decided that human affection is currently an optional subscription she has not signed up for. 😂

Reach toward her and she may politely retreat or settle for a quick pet here and there. Sit quietly nearby, though, and you’ll see her watching. Studying. Figuring out whether these humans might actually be okay.

Then someone brings out a toy.

And suddenly, we meet an entirely different Merida. The cautious little stray becomes a one-kitten circus. She launches herself through the air. She twists. She pounces. She stalks unsuspecting toys from behind blankets. She occasionally appears to be practicing parkour. And judging by the look she gives us after knocking something over, we’re fairly certain some of it is just for her own entertainment.

Playing is where Merida forgets to be afraid.

It’s where we get little glimpses of the kitten underneath all that caution. The silly, curious, mischievous girl who is slowly learning that she doesn’t have to take care of herself anymore.

Meet Tabitha, Calvin & Clem!

This adorable sibling trio is approximately 3–4 months old and ready to find loving homes where they can play, grow, and make plenty of memories along the way.

💗 Tabitha is curious, playful, and ready to become your little shadow. She loves being involved in whatever you’re doing and will happily keep you company.

💙 Calvin is super sweet, motivated, and has serious red panda energy—playful, goofy, entertaining, and impossible not to smile at.

💚 Clem is the opinionated one of the bunch. He knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to tell you, especially when food is involved! This little foodie also has a soft side and absolutely loves his cuddles.

🥒 Meet Dill Pickle — Dill for short! 🥒

This little pickle is kind of a big dill. 😏

Dill is a 3–4 month old, neutered male with three major talents: being ridiculously sweet, giving top-tier cuddles, and firing up his little purr motor the second the snuggles start.

He’s been patiently waiting for someone to come along and say, “Yep. That’s my pickle.”

Dill is ready to get out of this pickle and into a loving home of his very own. 🏡💚

Hi guys! The Moyer Animal Shelter Powell Wyoming is in need of some items for their cats! If you can’t drop it by there swing by and drop it off at the 163 N. Clark Street!

We are currently down to FIVE cats in the cat room! We would love to make that zero cats in there but, while they're still with us we have a few needs.
