World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March 21st every year. It’s celebrated on 3/21 because Down syndrome is caused by 3 copies of the 21st chromosome.

The main purpose of World Down Syndrome Day is to raise awareness and educate others about the value of individuals with Down syndrome.

Here are 5 easy ways to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day:

1. Wear colorful or mismatched socks- Socks are often used to celebrated WDSD because chromosomes look like socks in a karyotype (photo of chromosomes) and Down syndrome is caused by an extra chromosome.

2. Wear blue and yellow - Blue and yellow are the official colors of Down syndrome and can be worn on the 21st to help celebrate WDSD.

3. Share your favorite Down syndrome accounts - Share a post, a reel, a story about your favorite individual with Down syndrome or your favorite Down syndrome account

4. Donating to a Down syndrome foundation or charity is a great way to celebrate WDSD and to make a difference at the same time. There are so many amazing charities out there that do amazing things for the Down syndrome community.

5. Find local Down syndrome events - Many Down Syndrome Associations put on events for WDSD. If you can’t find any local events, another idea is to put on your own World Down Syndrome Day party!
