Happy Birthday, Georges Roualt!

Georges Rouault was a French painter, printmaker, and stained-glass artist known for his bold black outlines and deeply emotional, spiritual imagery. Born in Paris in 1871, he first trained as a stained-glass apprentice, which strongly influenced his dramatic use of color and line. Associated with the Fauvist movement early in his career, Rouault developed a highly personal style focused on themes of humanity, religion, clowns, judges, and social injustice. His work often combined vibrant colors with dark contours, giving his paintings the appearance of stained glass. Rouault became one of the most important religious artists of the 20th century and continued creating art until his death in 1958.

Happy Birthday, Franz Kline!

Franz Kline (1910–1962) was an American painter best known for his bold, large-scale black-and-white abstract paintings. Associated with the New York School and the Abstract Expressionist movement, Kline created energetic compositions using sweeping brushstrokes that often resembled urban architecture or calligraphy. Although he is most famous for monochromatic works, he also experimented with vibrant color later in his career. His expressive style helped define postwar American modern art.

Happy Birthday, Jasper Johns!

Jasper Johns is an American artist best known for helping bridge the gap between Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Born in 1930 in Augusta, Georgia, Johns became famous in the 1950s for his paintings of everyday symbols such as flags, targets, numbers, and maps. His work challenged viewers to think differently about familiar images and the meaning of art itself. Using layered textures and encaustic paint (pigment mixed with hot wax), Johns created works that were both visually striking and intellectually complex. He remains one of the most influential contemporary artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Happy Birthday, Frank Stella!!

Frank Stella (1936–2024) was an American painter and sculptor best known for his role in the development of Minimalism and abstract art. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, Stella rose to fame in the late 1950s with his “Black Paintings,” a series of stark geometric works featuring stripes and symmetrical patterns. Known for his famous quote, “What you see is what you see,” Stella focused on shape, color, and surface rather than emotional expression or symbolism. Throughout his career, his work evolved from flat geometric paintings into large-scale, colorful, and highly dimensional sculptures and mixed-media constructions. Stella became one of the most influential figures in contemporary American art, with works displayed in major museums around the world.

🌷 In recognition of Community Action Month, we are celebrating how small, intentional acts of kindness can make a real difference in our communities. Whether it is holding a door or helping someone in need, these everyday moments of care help build stronger connections and a greater sense of belonging.

🫶 “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” – Dalai Lama

💙 This month is a reminder that meaningful change does not always start with big gestures. Often, it begins with simple kindness that ripples outward and strengthens our community one action at a time.
