Happy Birthday to artist, Romare Bearden!

Romare Bearden was an influential American artist best known for his vibrant collages depicting African American life, culture, music, and community. Born on September 2, 1911, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he grew up largely in New York City during the Harlem Renaissance.

Bearden combined photographs, painted paper, fabric, and magazine clippings to create powerful scenes inspired by family, Southern life, city neighborhoods, history, and jazz. His distinctive collage style helped make him one of the most important American artists of the 20th century.

Bearden believed art could help people better understand one another and the world around them. Today, his work is celebrated for its storytelling, rhythm, bold color, and celebration of Black American culture and experience.

Potteries Bottle Ovens are distinctive bottle-shaped brick kilns once used to fire pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England—an area famous for its ceramics industry. 🏺🔥 Their tall, bottle-like structures helped control the intense heat needed to fire pottery. Thousands once filled the city’s skyline, but only a small number survive today as historic reminders of Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery heritage.

Happy Birthday to artist, Man Ray!

Man Ray (1890–1976) was an American artist and photographer best known for his work with the Dada and Surrealist movements. Born Emmanuel Radnitzky in Philadelphia, he spent much of his career in Paris, where he worked alongside artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Salvador Dalí.

Man Ray loved experimenting with photography and became famous for his “rayographs”—images made by placing objects directly onto photographic paper and exposing them to light, without using a camera. He also created paintings, sculptures, films, and unusual objects. His playful, experimental approach helped transform photography into an important form of modern art.
