Happy Birthday, Georges Roualt!
Georges Rouault was a French painter, printmaker, and stained-glass artist known for his bold black outlines and deeply emotional, spiritual imagery. Born in Paris in 1871, he first trained as a stained-glass apprentice, which strongly influenced his dramatic use of color and line. Associated with the Fauvist movement early in his career, Rouault developed a highly personal style focused on themes of humanity, religion, clowns, judges, and social injustice. His work often combined vibrant colors with dark contours, giving his paintings the appearance of stained glass. Rouault became one of the most important religious artists of the 20th century and continued creating art until his death in 1958.
