Our Style Inc. Pop Culture Reviews, Artistic Services, Art Acquisition, Design Suggestions, Tastemakers Hello, and good day. Who are we? The photos we post will be diverse.

We are Patty (Sarah) and Donna, two women frustrated with the world and it's lack of appreciation for both good taste and us. We have decided to show said world that we see beauty in many things. Our dogs, our backyards, our artwork, our food presentation, and all the skeletons in our closets make us see differently. We want you to participate and see the beauty in your animals, your backyards, yo

ur artwork and so on and so on and blah blah blah. Our intention with this blog, facebook and an Etsy store is to show you what we like, hope you like it and work together to make everyone's homes more inviting and attractive. Some will be photos we've taken ( that as luck would have it, if you like, you may purchase). Some will be observations, things we liked, puppies and kittys, anything we saw that made us stop and take a picture. Both of us have educational and professional bacgrouns, that's French for backgrounds, in artistic endeavors , obviously not in spelling. Here's the serious part, this is us being serious now. Patty's background , oops, back to English, is primarily in food. She loves to eat. Oh, wait, serious. She graduated from a prestigious culinary school with a specialty in pastry arts. She also has a degree in Art Therapy. Her fruit tart is artistic, delicious and theraputic. Donna has a degree in Studio Art with an interest in Art History. We met when we both worked at a picture frame store and have not stopped talking since. The biographies are short and direct for we think you'll know us better by what we post than by what we say. Neither of us knows what will happen with this, but let's go.

With so much to do in the purple room, I knew I needed background television. Just something to listen to as I attempt to complete tedious tasks. The movie was five minutes in when I saw it was on, it has just ended without my completing a single task. I knew better, did it anyway.
I first saw Nobody’s Fool (1994) with Paul Newman the year it was released. His performance is seamless; it is his absolute best role. Finding it today was kismet.
Should you have the opportunity to see this entertaining, funny grown up movie with a grown up plot and a grown up cast at their best I highly recommend.
And yes, I screamed at my television during the Oscars in 1995 when the lead actor of a flawless movie was bested by (as my friend Judy calls it “that insipid movie”) Tom Hanks.

I know what you re all going to say.
Just last week I confessed to bailing early on three award nominated movies. Just last night I watched a movie that was funny and highly entertaining. The lead actor gave a brave performance, his absolute best, ever.
Yup, Nicholas Cage, who has given a multitude of bad performances, was terrific as Nick Cage. His ability to laugh at himself was refreshing and unexpected. The comedic side of Pedro "I'm everywhere now, a really good actor and deserving of attention" Pascal induced giggles.
Had this been about/featured a different actor it may have been a hit. Cage's acting has ruined a few movies for me (Moonstruck, Peggy Sue Got Married, Raising Arizona) and only two impressed (Red Rock West and Adaptation). All his other movies blend to make one very long, convoluted, straight to video picture.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent plot is silly, the script is witty, the acting joyful. It's a fun night at the movies.
I s**t you not.

It is not unusual for the television to be on as background while I work.
Citizen Kane happened to be on the classics channel which reminded me of the news Robert Downey Jr. is remaking Vertigo.
Let's all guess how I took that news.
Instead of trying to comprehend the reasoning of remaking true classics, and letting us know that was the intention by using the actual titles (West Side Story and Bullitt most recently), let's see where this can go.
The most obvious choice is, indeed
I, Citizen Kane. The
1941 drama by boy wonder Orson Welles has become a true American story for both the movie and the man. It has been listed in the top ten greatest movies for 60 years: it made Welles a star. Ben Affleck will both star and direct showing off his limited abilities to do both.
Susan Alexander Kane, the second wife who aspires to be a singer in spite of her voice, will be played by Jennifer Lopez.
Then there's Casablanca. An American expatriate must decide who will escape German occupied Morocco, his ex lover and her husband or his ex lover and himself This screams out for a twist. Rick is played by Jennifer Aniston, Ilsa by Brad Pitt and Victor Lazlo by Angelina Jolie. The true star will be Captain Louis Renault played by Justin Theroux.
How about The Godfather? It's 50 years old, time for a refresh but this time without the violence or language because they are all woke. It will star the entire Baldwin family and be directed by the ultimate teen drama filmmaker, the late John Hughes.

My eyes are sore. My tear ducts are empty. Manchester By The Sea has worn me out and I loved every minute of it. Kenneth Lonergan has written and directed a moving and realistic tale of masculine grief; grief for brothers and fathers and sons and uncles and nephews. His script is dramatic and comic, but mostly realistic with characters talking over each other and the saddest of moments slapped by a wisecrack. Then there's the acting, there's Casey Affleck. He was an amusing goofball in the Oceans' movies, he was wise and intuitive in Gone Baby Gone, but here he is a wonder.
Brooding and insular is slowly and emotional explained and he never misses a step. Michelle Williams will have your admiration while she breaks your heart, Kyle "sigh" Chandler is the brother everyone should have and Lucas Hedges is sufficiently full of grief and hormones. This is a movie of visual beauty and visceral impact made for those that crave character development and smart writing. Crying at the movies on a cold winter afternoon, yeah, I loved it.

American Hustle is brilliant. It is everything I want in a movie. Director David O. Russell has made a scathingly funny and smart film about con artists, gangsters,
"honest" politicians, marriage and love. Christian Bale, whom I have long admired, has never been better. His performance is thoughtful and controlled. Jennifer Lawrence is a perfect "dumb blonde." Watching Lawrence and Amy Adams (wearing vee to the knee, slit to the c**t) meet and confront is an acting lesson. The music, the sets, the costumes (at one point Adams wears a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress I always wanted. Still do apparently.) are perfect in recreating the 70's. Russell has slid onto my list of top directors with this movie. Mr. Scorsese must be so proud.

The Wolf of Wall Street or nothing exceeds like excess.
Funny, smart, entertaining and sexy, the movie is based on the true story of a stockbroker who becomes rich and an as***le. Scorsese borrows from his own movies (Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Casino) to make a picture with both flash and substance. DiCaprio's pretty face lulls you into trusting him while he cleans out your wallet. Jonah Hill (who knew) is perfectly smarmy. It depicts Wall Street as Ancient Rome with all the vices and vulgarity, and the main character seeks reinvention rather than redemption. It has everything a movie should have and at 3 hours, still left me wanting more.

I love James Gandolfini. I have thought him a star since Get Shorty in 1995. At last, he has a star vehicle in Enough Said and it is fabulous and sad. His performance is wonderful; honest and funny and endearing and sexy.
The fact he has died and there will be no more performances sucks. This movie does something rare, it treats it's characters as real people in real situations with real dialogue and real consequences. It, too, is honest and funny and endearing. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has a great expressive face and this is her first role I have seen that I didn't think of Elaine. There are a couple of moments that scream "chick flick" (mom sits in daughter's empty room while bad song tells us how she feels.) which is disappointing because the rest of the movie is enjoyable, but I can't have everything.

Blue Jasmine by Woody Allen.
Stolichnaya, Streetcar Named Desire and Bernie Madoff, that's what this movie is made of. I love Woody' s morality plays and this one is as good as Match Point or Crimes and Misdemeanors. This is funny and dark and smart. I will give nothing else away concerning the plot, but instead applaud the acting. Cate Blanchett has received loads of acclaim for this performance and it is deserved. She shows everything and the result is heartbreaking. Alec Baldwin has the snake act down, smiling while he f***s you without a kiss. All the actors are fabulous and embody their roles, but, and here's a sentence I never would have thought I would say/write, Andrew Dice Clay is wonderful. No, really. Woody Allen has performed a little miracle in the script and directing for me to like every actor in this, even the ones I don't like. The sets, the art, the costumes (the credits list a
'Shopper', I want that job), are all major players. What's interesting is in most of Woody's later movies, the city is also a star, yet in this both New York and San Francisco are simply bit players. Except that house in Marin, I want that house in Marin. Money can buy happiness.
