Has anyone else been spending the week enraged by the most recent assault on human rights? Cause we have.
For those who don't know, The Ethos is the new us.
We still have the same values and fight the same fights.
Follow us at the new account as this page will no longer be monitored once we are able to open our doors at the new building.
WE STRIKE SUNDAY. Details below.
Welp. We really thought now would be when we'd get to start showing you cute photos of our progress at the new building, but SCOTUS had to do what they do, so guess what. Happy fun times are gonna wait a bit. Instead, we've been talking about how to deal with the newest assault on reproductive rights. And, like many others, we've decided to STRIKE!!
GENERAL STRIKE BEGINS
Sunday, May 8th
Runs for one week
Women and those who are vulnerable to unwanted or high-risk pregnancies will not be participating in or supporting a system that has proven time and time again that it does not regard us as human.
The mission is simple: Break the economy over the course of one week by abstaining from work, shopping, entertaining; and on the home front, running a household that would fall apart without your care. Go to mothersdaystrike.com to learn more.
What can I do?
- Nothing. Literally. Do nothing.
- Do not participate in the economy.
- Buy nothing.
- If you can manage it without getting fired, don't go to work.
- If you've got a job where they'd be semi-supportive, talk to them about how your organization CAN do something.
- Ask your favorite local business how they're supporting reproductive rights this week.
- Call up your local unions and ask how they plan to stand in solidarity.
- If you own a small business, we know it's likely not possible to shut down for a week. If it is, super duper! But if it's not, consider putting up flyers, collecting donations for Planned Parenthood, Cobalt Abortion Fund, or NARAL, and talking to your fellow business owners about what you can do.
- Share strike posts! Talk about the ways you're supporting the strike. Do it a lot! Like, annoying-your-friends a lot. Strikes aren't silent, so let's get LOUD!!
What can WE do at The Ethos(formerly TickTock)?
Well, we can't close because we're not open. But we're stopping renovations for a week (and that's gonna hurt us bad). And we're opening our doors for mutual aid. If you need somewhere to make posters for a march or to have a planning meeting, if not buying anything means you'll be short on food, if you're a single mom who can't simply NOT care for your kids next week, then drop us a line and we'll see how we can help.
It's going to be difficult. A week is a big ask. But strikes are never convenient. They are merely what is left at the end of our hope.
