On this day, December 7th, 1941, the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy in a surprise, large-scale assault that lasted roughly 90 minutes. 2,403 Americans killed,1,178 wounded, 8 battleships damaged or sunk, including the USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma, Nearly 200 aircraft destroyed and the USS Arizona was hit by a massive bomb that ignited its forward magazine, killing 1,177 sailors and Marines—over half of all casualties that day.
