Plastic Free July is coming to a close, but here, we’re on a plastic-free mission daily.

While we strive for a more ecologically healthy future, I believe it’s so important to step back and appreciate the wins we’ve had.

As a community, you have *showed up* for us and environmental makers in our shop!

Here are some of my favorite highlights:
🧴Over 2,634 plastic containers saved from landfill through our refills - not counting all other plastic-busting products

🗽Our partnership with , where we saw over 15 local makers’ products grace our tables and shelves!

📦We launched our online shop with circular refill delivery, and have shipped out over 80 local makers with two local drop-offs for our glass jars

And that’s not including all that I can’t quantify… your kind Google reviews, neighbors making the trek rain and shine to refill instead of buy new, hundreds upon hundreds of glass jar donations & refills, and all the kindnesses, like the customer who brought in pie (!!) 🍰
We’re happy to be here and hope to serve you for the long-term! Thanks for all your support this Plastic Free July and everyday.

Our first online orders are out the door! Seeing your names pop up has made me so happy :)

If you miss your favorite products from Astoria, live away from our Brooklyn shop, or just want to try Earth & Me from afar, we’re officially shipping!

Unlike our website in the past, which was a secondary part of our brick-and-mortar, we now have a *fully dedicated* online shop. That means items ship ASAP, and you can get your essentials fast. (Me running to the post office -> 🏃🏻‍♀️)

Everything on our website was first a bestseller in our shop, and for good reason. We stock family-run, women- and POC-owned businesses. We support small family farms who use regenerative agriculture and solar power. Our makers give back to their communities and the fight for climate conservation. We’ve included bios about each of them on our website. Many are our friends!

As you may know, after our Queens shop closed, I moved to a new home. I struggled to find all the items I had come to love – hand wash, bar soap, floss, toothpaste, and sponges, to name a few — in the conventional stores available. Even the ‘eco friendlier’ options came packaged in useless plastic. Or they didn’t work like I wanted them to! Or they were expensive. I was like, wow, I personally miss my shop! I miss the hassle-free option where everything was curated, vetted, tested, and loved. It reminded me why I started Earth & Me in the first place.

We’ve simplified and improved our online shop, and added a curated lineup of tried-and-true bestsellers, including refills like hand and dish soap, laundry, and haircare. More, like toothpaste and body oil, are on the way. Need a funnel or glass pump bottle? We’ve got those, too!

All orders ship zero-waste for a flat $7.99 shipping cost nationwide. All our materials are plastic-free and recycled or recyclable. ♻️

We pack our refills in glass jars that you can keep and reuse, recycle, or drop off in Queens or Brooklyn at a drop-off site for a completely circular experience. We’re partnering with .nyc and our .bk shop where you can bring our Earth & Me glass jars!

This week, Kristina Capra of the Earth & Me team joined hundreds of activists in Albany for a climate action day with , , and !

“Yesterday, myself, alongside of hundreds of New Yorkers, made our way to Albany to demand funding for climate and environmental justice NOW.

We called on governor Kathy Hochul to urgently fund climate action now by ensuring the state spends money effectively and where it matters: increasing affordability, decreasing pollution, and more!

It was a powerful & emotional experience hearing from Gen Z students, religious leaders, scientists, and impacted stories of climate change from activists all around New York.”

To our Queens community – we need your help 💚

For the past month as we’ve planned our shop closure, we had hopes of a lease takeover that unfortunately recently fell through.

We’ve put lots of love and investment into the store, from brand new floors, beautiful track lighting, a backyard mural and garden, basement renovations, and a brand new heat pump. It’s an amazing space and has served us SO well. We’d love to keep the space in the community.

Our Astoria storefront is open in January and we need your help spreading the word about starting a new lease in our space. For several reasons we can’t keep the shop open past December here, and will need to keep paying our rent monthly until the springtime if it is not filled. Admittedly, it’s become a very scary situation for me personally, but I know our community has come through for us so many times.

Our shop is ~1000 square feet, ~1000 feet in the basement storage, with a large backyard garden and cafe appliances in the back. Asking rent is in the $7500-8000 range. The landlord has been really amenable to flexibility with the length of guarantee (6 months, usually 2 years and 6 months) for any new businesses, and also is open to negotiating security deposit amounts to help with startup costs, although the space is move-in ready! Shelving and checkout counters are also available to purchase/keep here.

Please share this and if you have any friends, neighbors, or community contacts who need a retail space. I know this is a great opportunity for someone, and would help us avoid the worst of this situation and keep the prospects alive that we could stick around in some capacity for the future.

Our shop on Steinway will be closed November 28-29, and reopening for Shop Small Astoria week November 30-December 4!
