Someone asks me about the store kits almost every week, so here is the honest answer.
The kit is not the same product we install, and the difference is not the paint. It is one step that happens before any coating touches the floor.
Kit instructions say to acid etch the concrete. That opens the surface a little. We diamond grind, which opens the concrete for real and gives the coating something to lock into.
Skip that step and the coating ends up sitting on top of the slab instead of bonding to it. Two summers later, hot tires pull heat into the coating and it lifts right out of the parking area. Same spot on almost every failed floor we get called out to.
It is a prep problem, not a paint problem.
Our process is diamond grinding, epoxy base coat, full broadcast vinyl flake, and a polyaspartic topcoat. Done right, a garage floor is a one time job.
