Decorative Sandblasting on Glass. Laser cutting and engraving on various materials. Sand Carving Glass is done by using compressed air and blowing an abrasive at a glass surface. Where the abrasive hits the glass it roughens or eventually erodes the glass. Artwork is used to generate a (hand-cut, plotter cut, or photo resist to create) the mask. A mask is used to prot

ect the glass not to be etched. The masking material is applied to the Glass and ‘weeded’ pulling out the areas that are to be sandblasted. The masks are only used once and normally destroyed in the carving or cleaning process. Masks may start the same, but every carving will be different in texture or depth of cut. The carving is done in a ventilated sandblasting cabinet to control the abrasive and dust. Once the sandblasting is completed the mask is removed and the glass cleaned revealing the final product. This process can yield a very light surface etch to deep carving with great texture.
