SEALING NATURAL STONE IS NOT A BIG DEAL

One of the biggest concerns I hear about natural stone is:

“But doesn’t it have to be sealed?”

Yes, natural stone should be sealed periodically—but this is really not a huge deal.

Granite, quartzite, and marble all require some maintenance, but sealing is usually a simple process and does not need to take over your life.

Think of it as basic care for a beautiful natural material, not a reason to avoid it altogether.

If you love natural stone, a small amount of maintenance is often well worth it.

Use marble when you want warmth, character, and a refined, lived-in look.

Marble is a soft natural stone, which means it will change as you use it. It may develop small scratches, etching, and a patina over time.

That is not necessarily damage. It is part of marble’s living finish.

Marble may not be right for someone who wants their countertops to remain perfectly untouched. But if you appreciate materials that age and tell a story, marble can be one of the most timeless and beautiful choices.

Timeless is not a particular style or look.

It is what happens when the design fits the home, reflects the people living there, and feels cohesive from room to room.

You can have a home that feels timeless and still feels uniquely you.

It’s not complicated. It just takes a bit of know-how.

Cohesiveness is what makes a home feel timeless.

You can have a beautiful kitchen, beautiful furniture, and beautiful window treatments—but if they all feel like they belong in different homes, something will still feel off.

Cohesion is the mortar that holds a design together and helps it stand the test of time.

It needs to work for the people who live there.

Who is using the space? What do they need from it? What do they genuinely love?

Trends will change, but a home that reflects your taste and supports the way you live will always feel personal and lasting.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTERTOP MATERIAL

In my opinion, quartzite is the most beautiful countertop material available.

It is a completely natural stone, and every slab is unique. Some are soft and subtle, while others look like artwork.

Quartzite is also one of the hardest natural stones, which makes it extremely durable.

The downside is cost. Depending on the particular stone, quartzite can easily range from $2,000 to $8,000 per slab, and its hardness makes it more expensive to fabricate.

It is not the budget choice—but when the right slab is selected, there is truly nothing else like it.

Quartz is popular for a reason.

It is durable, does not need to be sealed, and is consistent from slab to slab. The sample you choose today should look the same as the slab you order six months from now.

But there are two important limitations:

Quartz cannot be used outside because sunlight can cause it to yellow.

You also should not place extremely hot pans directly on it. A crockpot or curling iron is usually fine, but do not move a cast-iron pan directly from the stove to the bare countertop.

Quartz is easy to live with—you just need to understand what it can and cannot handle.
