Garden Folklore
* Bad luck will be in years, if you kill a cricket.
* If a young lady finds 9 peas in a pod, then the next bachelor she meets will become her husband.
* Eat 3 almonds, from your garden, before going to sleep and your dreams will be in color.
* When harvesting asparagus, leave 1 stalk for good luck.
* According to English superstition, if the petals fall from a fresh-cut red rose, bad luck will soon follow.
* To see other people working in your garden during your dream signifies profitable work and good health for all concerned.
* It was believed that if lavender was worn in your cap daily, it would ward off all “diseases of the head” that came from cold.

Rose Care
To keep blossoms coming, cut plenty of long stemmed flowers and remove all spent flowers. To get roses back in gear for another period of bloom, give them a good dose of fertilizer.

Frogs & Toads
Both of these can be a gardener’s best friend. They will consume hundreds of insects like cutworms, beetles, caterpillars, and slugs. Give them a home in the garden by placing an inverted clay pot in a shady spot. Chip out a piece of the pot’s rim to give the toads an entrance to their home. Leaving on a porch light at night will also attract toads to the garden.

The Legendary Daffodil:
A popular legend describes the origin of the daffodil’s distinctive star shape…Each time that a guardian angel notices a good deed during Lent (such as a prayer or sacrifice), she plucks a gold star from the heavens and sends it to earth, where it blooms as a golden daffodil.
