🌊 𝗔 𝟭,𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝗺² 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀

To mark 160 years of diplomatic relations between Belgium and Japan, Brussels transformed its iconic Grand-Place into a massive floral fresco inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

Designed by Japanese artist Hiro Sugiyama and his creative collective Enlightenment, the installation reinterprets classic ukiyo-e printmaking on an urban scale. Over 750,000 fresh dahlias, grass, and bark were hand-assembled by hundreds of volunteers to complete the piece.

The project highlights how temporary landscape art and ephemeral architecture can completely reshape historical public space. 🇧🇪🤝🇯🇵
