Glass Whimsies by Tyler

Glass Whimsies by Tyler I love to play with glass. I create stained glass panels, free-standing stained glass pieces and mosaics with glass. I mostly create when I'm inspired to do so.

This is my hobby and I only sell a few pieces every year. I don't take commissions.

I have two free standing stained glass Christmas trees available on Etsy. There are a few more in the queue, but I can't guarantee they will get done quickly. For some reason, the whole process took much longer this year. Anyway, enjoy the holidays!

Update: A few more projects have been added to Etsy! These are the glass on glass mosaics. The next group will be the standing trees, which likely won't be ready until Thanksgiving weekend.

I just uploaded a few projects to Etsy if anyone is interested. I plan on adding more pictures to each listing over the weekend. I have also started on the GOG winter themed mosaics. In the meantime, if you have questions or suggestions, let me know!!

Since I have a little free time on my hands right now, I am curious if folks would purchase any of the following projects:

Slate Mosaics - starting at $25 in a 6"x6" wood frame. Larger sizes would be more $$

Standing Stained Glass Suncatchers - e.g the Foxes or Tulips. I was thinking of creating something more winter themed like snowmen, nutcrackers and poinsettia. These take a lot more work and would be at least $50 each.

Glass on Glass Mosaics with Holiday or Winter themes - similar to the GOG Raven, but instead with doves, snowmen, xmas trees or holly. These would also vary by size (8x8 to 10x10), but would likely be around $30-$50.

None of these projects can be done quickly, so it would be awesome to know what folks would actually be interested in buying before I start the whole process. I would likely make them available for sale when they are ready. I do not plan to take commissions at this time. Of course, if the government continues to be closed, I will re-evaluate that decision!

Please drop a comment with what kind of projects you think people would be interested in.. obviously, there is no expectation that you would have to buy anything! I am just interested in opinions right now.

THANK YOU!

Happy Fall! You may have noticed that I haven't been posting much. I've been in a bit of a creative funk and am branching out to new methods. However, to keep my mind off politics, I have been spending time playing with glass and slate. I have recently finished four projects that are quite different from what I've done in the past.

Over the summer, I took a class on creating slate mosaics and produced a blue and yellow "burst" that is kinda fun. The only glass involved are the small zips of color. The rest is all slate and thinset. This process was totally different and I want to see if I can bring more slate into my other projects.

I created a few small fish suncatchers that might be used for a work event in the future (assuming the government ever reopens). These were surprisingly difficult and fiddly. Cute though.

Finally, I explored creating glass on glass mosaics (GOG) by using glass as a full background with the glass mosaic pieces glued on top. I think it really makes the design "pop". I made two raven mosaics and am fond of both. I am quickly becoming obsessed with ravens, so don't be surprised to see more designs with these very cool birds.

Spring usually means dog show trophies and I'm proud to continue the tradition in 2025! These free-standing Weim profiles will be for the big winners in the Weimaraner Club of the Washington DC Area's Spring Specialty this coming weekend in Timonium MD. The adorable Weim garden stakes are for some of the other winners. Hope the winners enjoy their trophies!

Finished the second fox! Right after I took this picture, my fox neighbor ambled right through my front yard. He even stopped by my front door and checked out my stone Weim statue! Have I mentioned how much I love foxes?

The fox ideas running through my head just wouldn't stop, so I just went ahead and made two different standing fox suncatchers. The first one came out pretty good and shows a fox diving into the snow to catch a mouse. Lest you think this is unusual, I also included a picture of a fox doing exactly that. I rushed to get this one done before our big snow in DC, so it's not perfect, but it was certainly fun creating it. I haven't quite finished the second suncatcher of a sitting fox because I have to make a few significant design changes before it will safely be a free-standing suncatcher. In the meantime, he is "sitting" in my window. LOL. Enjoy!

Happy Holidays everyone! I've been a bit quiet this year and haven't done as many glass projects as I'd like, but I did have a few that I'd like to share. :-)

Other than a fascinating mosaic class I took in the Spring, I've mainly been focusing on creating 3D standing stained glass pieces that I can place on bookshelves etc. I love the fact that I can move these pieces around to wherever they might catch some light and am not limited to finding an open window. I'm planning more of these projects in 2025 and am envisioning foxes, owls and ravens in glass. Anyone have any suggestions?

Happy New Year!

Weimaraner & Dog Friends: I've donated a few suncatchers, including a free standing version to an online auction to support multiple dog rescues. The first suncatcher is linked below and the other two will be available for bidding soon. The auction runs through this week and there is LOTs of interesting stuff available to bid on - all for a good cause!

I've almost finished my new standing tulips project and I am ridiculously excited that it turned out well. I wasn't sure the simple round steel base would be enough to keep the tulips standing without any issue. It worked!! I still need to give it a good polish, but it's almost done. This one will be a gift for someone, but I plan on doing a few others (with some small improvements). Check it out!
