Inspiration has a way of finding us when we step outside of our everyday surroundings.

My family is spending some time in Maine this week, and I’ve found myself taking photos of everything from the changing leaves to the colors of historic homes, the textures of the rocky coastline, and all the little details that give this place its character. (And even lobster rolls.)

Travel has always been an important source of inspiration for me, and it’s one of the reasons we love asking our clients about the places they’ve traveled, their favorite memories, and the experiences that have stayed with them. Those conversations often tell us so much more about what feels like home to someone than a collection of inspiration photos ever could.

The most personal spaces are shaped by more than what we find beautiful. They’re influenced by the places we’ve been, the things we’ve experienced, and the memories we want to carry with us.

There’s a temptation when renovating a home to make every decision as broadly appealing as possible. But quirks and character are often what makes an older home worth falling in love with in the first place.

For , this bathroom was one of those opportunities. Bird-covered walls bring a little whimsy, while Turkish Coffee cabinetry and classic terracotta tones ground the room. We love when a home feels collected rather than overly coordinated.

It’s rarely one big design decision that makes a room special. It’s all of the little ones, layered together, that make a home feel like it belongs to the people who live there.

Meet the finished .

When our clients purchased this largely original 1970s home, they saw what we saw: a house with plenty worth keeping and an opportunity to rethink the parts that no longer made sense for the way a family lives today.

The kitchen was at the center of that transformation. By relocating the laundry room upstairs, where all of the bedrooms are, we were able to open up the main floor and create new sightlines between the kitchen, living, and dining spaces. We turned the existing bay window into a built-in banquette, then layered in warm wood, color, unlacquered brass, and collected details to create a kitchen that feels connected to the character of the home rather than dropped into it.

There was already plenty to fall in love with here. Our job was to uncover it, make it work beautifully for the family who calls it home, and give them even more reasons to love it for years to come.

Maybe this wasn’t supposed to be your forever home.

You bought it thinking you’d stay for a few years, move up eventually, find something bigger or better. And then… you built a life there. Your kids have friends down the street. You love your neighborhood. You know your neighbors. And when you look at what it would take to move, you start wondering if you even want to.

We’re having this conversation with more and more of our renovation clients. They don’t necessarily want a different house. They want this house to work better. Sometimes that means moving the kitchen. Sometimes we’re stealing square footage from a room that isn’t pulling its weight. Sometimes we look at a floor plan they’ve lived with for ten years and completely rethink how it could function.

And yes, we’re going to make it beautiful. But if you’re investing in a home you plan to stay in, we want to think much bigger than finishes.

How could this house support the way you live now? What might you need from it ten years from now? And what possibilities are hiding in the square footage you already have?

You may not need a different house. You might just need to see your current one differently.

We’re delighted to see our work featured by Sherwin-Williams in STIR, exploring “midimalism” and the move toward homes that feel personal and layered without becoming visually overwhelming.

It’s a balance we think about often. We love color, pattern, and rooms with a strong point of view, but knowing where to exercise restraint is just as important as knowing where to make a statement.

As I shared with Sherwin-Williams, “Color was used architecturally rather than decoratively. Rich color moments feel more impactful when they are paired with quieter areas that allow the eye to rest.”

For us, that balance creates room for personality, collections, family life, and all the things gathered along the way.

Thank you to Sherwin-Williams for including our work and perspective, and to Sarah Linden | Dallas Interior Photographer for capturing it so beautifully.

A moment for some of the little moments at SKIN REVIVAL STUDIO.

We had a mini install day today and got to see a few more of our design details come to life. This project has been deeply personal from the beginning, designed specifically for Esther | Richardson/Plano, TX Korean Facials + Acne Care with layers of meaning woven throughout the space.

From references to Korean culture and craft to details that simply feel like *her*, every decision has had a reason behind it. Seeing those ideas leave our drawings and finish samples and become a real place for her clients to experience is one of the best parts of this work.

As we begin wrapping up this project, we’re feeling very grateful she trusted us to tell her story through the space. And very ready to see the whole thing together.

One detail we think is worth the investment: custom upholstery.

(Okay, there are quite a few things we think are worth the investment, but let’s start here.)

When you’re investing in a home for your family, beautiful isn’t enough. The pieces we select need to hold up to the way you live, feel good at the end of a long day, and still be something you’re happy to look at for years to come.

That’s where custom upholstery really proves its value.

Have young kids or pets? We can specify a performance textile that stands up to everyday life. Love a vintage chair but not the worn upholstery? We can give it a second life in a fabric that better suits your home today. Want a sofa that’s as comfortable for movie night as it is beautiful? We can customize the cushion fill, seat depth, and support.

You’re not simply choosing the silhouette, fabric, and finishes. You’re choosing how that piece functions in your everyday life.

To us, the ultimate luxury is having furniture that is perfectly adapted to your life. Not the other way around.

The best version of your life might be on the other side of a home renovation.

Not because beautiful homes define us. They don’t. And while a prettier home alone isn’t everything, a well-designed space can absolutely improve how you live and feel day to day. But a not-quite-right home can limit the version of yourself that you’re striving for.

Take our family. They love to entertain. They even own a giant gumbo pot for feeding a crowd. Hospitality was already a big part of who they were, but their home made it harder than it needed to be.

The kitchen was somehow both small and spread out. There wasn’t a natural place for people to gather, and their extensive w**e collection didn’t have a home of its own. The way they wanted to live simply didn’t align with the way their home was designed.

We completely reworked the kitchen layout, added a butler’s pantry, and designed a custom backlit w**e rack to give everything, and everyone, a place.

The renovation didn’t turn them into people who love opening their home to friends and family. They already were those people. Now, their home makes it easier for them to live that way.
