Hey everyone! Just a quick heads up! I’ll be closing at 3 PM today so I can take my daughter to the doctor’s. If we get finished in time, I’ll reopen until 5 PM! 😊

I’m just going to be transparent with you all because I feel like keeping a good line of communication shows respect and creates understanding…

I’ve really been torn between making sure I keep my customers happy and doing what makes my family and me happy. I never want the store hours to feel unreliable, and I especially worry about people making the drive to the store only to find that it’s closed. Keeping my customers happy is SUPER important to me. Because of that, I tend to put my own things aside to make sure I’m not inconveniencing anyone else.

With all that said, my family is having a reunion that we’ve had planned for months now. Since I’m now a one-man band, I felt like I needed to stay behind and run the store. But after more thought, I’ve realized it’s just as important to make time for my family and myself too.

So I’ve compromised with myself. 😊

•••Tomorrow, October 3rd, The Funky Fern will be closing at 2 PM.•••

That way I can squeeze in a few hours at the store AND still have time to go be with my family.

With your continued support, one day I’ll get to the point where I can hire someone to help me run this little place so I don’t have to choose between the two. Until then, if you’re ever making the drive just to come shop at The Funky Fern, please check Facebook before heading over to confirm we’re open.

Thank you for continuing to support me, rolling with the occasional schedule changes, reading my posts as I overshare/overthink and understanding that there’s just one of me trying to make it all work. 🫶🏻

I’ve been itching to do a Fill-a-Bag Sale, but with everything going on recently (and the weather not cooperating), I just haven’t been able to make it happen.

BUT… I need to clear out some clothes to make room for new stuff, so let’s do 40% OFF ALL CLOTHING this week! 🧡🌼

Just a reminder, The Funky Fern will be CLOSED Thursday, Oct. 1st, so come snag yourself some stuff today, Friday & Saturday!

Come help me clear these racks so I can fill them back up again😁

I have to be closed on Thursday, Oct 1st. 😟. I’ll see you all today, Friday, or Saturday though! 😁

I feel like everyone needs to see the back of a thrift store at least once.

Because THIS is why I thrift.

Everything you’re looking for probably already exists. The clothes. The dishes. The picture frames. The furniture. The toys. The kitchen stuff. The weird little thing you’ve had on your wishlist for six months.

Someone already bought it. Someone already used it. And eventually, a lot of it ends up here.

This is the back of ONE thrift store. Just ONE. Look at how much stuff is waiting to be sorted and given another chance.

We live in a world that constantly convinces us we need the newest version of everything. New clothes every season. New decor every trend. New furniture because the internet decided our old furniture isn’t cute anymore.

Meanwhile, there are literal mountains of perfectly good things that already exist.

And maybe that’s why thrifting has completely changed the way I shop. I don’t automatically think “where can I buy this?” anymore.

I think, “I bet this already exists somewhere. I just have to find it.”

And honestly? The waiting makes finally finding it SO much better. 🥹

There is already enough stuff in this world. Give the old stuff another chance before we make more.

I have some sad news…

After helping build The Funky Fern from the very beginning, Michelle has decided to step away from the store to focus more on her family.

While I completely support her decision, this one is a little hard for me to write because The Funky Fern was never something I pictured doing alone… It started as an idea between two best friends. Somehow that idea turned into finding a space, filling it with donated treasures, spending endless hours sorting and pricing, and dreaming about all the things we wanted this little store to become. Michelle was there for all of it. She helped give The Funky Fern its personality. There are memories tucked into just about every corner of this place, and I will always be grateful that I got to build something this special with my best friend.

Now I’m stepping into a chapter I honestly never expected. I’m now figuring out how to take something that was built by the two of us and learn how to carry it forward on my own. I’m excited about what’s ahead, but I also have to be realistic about what one person can do. Keeping the store open is only a small part of running it.

So for now, I need to give myself one extra day each week to catch up and keep this place running. So bear with me as out what this next chapter looks like. But don’t worry The Funky Fern isn’t going anywhere. I still believe in this wonderful little store and everything it can become. I’m sure there will be some trial and error while I learn how to do this solo, but I’m going to keep building on what we started.

Michelle, thank you for taking a random idea with me and turning it into something real. Thank you for the hours, the creativity, the laughs, the excitement over weird donations, the decorating, the brainstorming and all the memories that came with building this place together. The Funky Fern simply wouldn’t be what it is without you. ❤️❤️
