Concrete Corner Bookshelf

One-of-a-kind, hand-crafted bookshelf. Composed of a piece of reclaimed wood pulled from the James River, Richmond, VA. The wood was originally one piece, divided into two for the shelf and finished with polycrylic. Character marks such as original nails/holes/blemishes, age-grooves in the wood grain, and a beautiful natural break at the knot on the top shelf communicate the authenticity of the wood’s former life. The modern, geometrically inspired triangle base is near 80lbs worth of pure concrete. Inclusion of white paint on some edges provide a fresh and contemporary element.

Height: 22 1/2”
Length: 28”
Width: Approx 7”

$60 **SO happy to say that I have officially partnered with Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity and 10% of any/all of DriftRVA profits will be donated to helping build better lives for our community in need!!

Message if interested, thanks!!

Gotta lot more work to do with this one but I think it’s gonna turn out pretty cool! 😁

3 PIECE DRIFTWOOD TABLE SET: "Climate Change"

This piece was created from one large piece of driftwood pulled from the James River. Epoxy element on top of wood with a slight "waterfall" effect on each as well. Concrete bases (felt on bottom) with a sparkling brand new 29in, 1/4 thickness, tempered/flat edge glass table top.

Message if interested ;)

“The Mimosa Table” :this one actually started with some repurposed wrought iron legs that just needed a little cleaning up and a whole new top. I handcrafted the top out of what was actually a mistake of slab of epoxy from a prior project along with some spare wood I had acquired. The epoxy had developed a slightly yellow color due to overheating.. and if you know epoxy.. you know that stuff isnt cheap enough to waste! When put over top of the wood I noticed it almost looked like a beach sunset silhouette. I played with a few more layers of color and epoxy to enhance the effect.. And what’s beach scene without a palm tree?
The Mimosa tree came to mind. There are several of these in RVA and every time I run or walk past one I get reminded of some good vibes of my days in Hawaii, California, and Florida. 😊 The leaves are “bipennate” or separated like those of a fern or palm. Knowing you can dry and preserve leaves and other objects in epoxy I tried out the process and came up with this top.
Another fun fact about this eastern and southwestern native tree is that in Japan it is known as the “Sleeping Tree” because those bipennate leaves actually fold up at night and during rainstorms. With the table top there was a perfectly clean wood underside as well And I thought it might be cool to have a “two-toned” reversible table or perhaps you could find some metaphor in putting the Mimosa leaves to sleep while using the wood side up 😉
For the table top trim I used some scrap metal I removed from a very old, and soon to be beautifully restored, steamer trunk I acquired and began to clean up. Secured it with some copper push nails and epoxy.
All together, you have the Mimosa Table.

Over the years I’ve moved countless times.. state to state, in and out of many different kinds of living situations. I began to develop a knack for using my creativity and resourcefulness to find and use different affordable materials to repurpose/build with and/or quality furniture at little to no cost to refurbish. With Covid slowing down the personal training business lately I’ve used the extra time to explore these skills a bit more. I find inspiration from past and present adventures and materials from my now hometown RVA to begin making one-of-a-kind creations I’d like to share with you guys 😊 here’s a few so far.. with more to come!
