Our clients at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) felt their visitors just wizzed by their retail space instead of carefully shopping because they could see into the wide open space from the corridor. By creating distinct spaces using casework and inviting nooks, including a kids' corners, the space now invites patrons to enter and explore.
We incorporated one of our biggest challenges - a giant structural column in the middle of the room - into our design by building casework that houses jewelry and other wearable merchandise around it and hanging mirrors from it.
A great way to get the parents into the store? A kids nook with peg board to show off kids merchandise!
We worked with the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) team to include important existing antiques in the reading nook.
With the walls covered in shelving, we only had one place to create visual interest using pattern: the ceiling. We worked with Sarah Rowland to create custom wallpaper, choosing a style that was architectural in nature that featured rosettes like those found in the iconic Virginia House.
Pulling in the brand colors into the shelving makes the space more vibrant...just like Jocelyn, one of our designers that brought this project to life!
