A deeper walnut-toned finish gave the different woods enough depth to finally read as one cohesive piece — while still letting that gorgeous oak grain show through. First, I stained the entire piece with Jacobean, then sealed with Seal Coat so I could apply some toner (just on the drawers). But, I wasn’t happy with how it looked, so I wiped the toner back off with some lacquer thinner and then tried a coat of Dark Walnut gel stain, and that worked much better! Finally, I sealed everything with a matte poly. Not the original plan, but absolutely the right choice for THIS piece!

We had to hide some very prominent stripes on the two top drawers of this one! My client wanted to go with a lighter tone originally, but after stripping and seeing that the top drawers were made from two very different cuts of oak, she chose to pivot. I first stained everything with Jacobean and sealed it with Seal Coat so I could add some toner on top. But, the colors of toner I have available locally weren’t right for this piece. So, I wiped that back off and instead applied some dark walnut gel stain, and that did the trick! I love the way the grain still shows, but the difference in the oak cuts doesn’t show nearly as much. Swipe to see a closer view and what we were dealing with. Would you have done the same?

I let this one go today and I already know I’m going to miss it! But, I know that its new owner will appreciate its original and intact curved glass doors, beveled mirror and gorgeous paw feet as much as I did! 🥰

It’s all about that base 🎵

I could NOT come up with a plan for this one! I, of course, first wanted to strip that orange pine and go with a lighter wood finish. But, the side panels are not real wood. So, I knew I wanted to paint, but nothing was feeling right. I thought about removing that base board and adding feet, or leaving it on, but cutting updated scallops. I ran through so many color and hardware options, but again, nothing felt right. Finally, I decided to cut the front baseboard to match the sides-a much simpler cut design that feels much more fitting for this piece. Finally! I had a plan that felt right! Then, I fixed a couple of non-functioning drawers, gave it a new color and hardware, and she’s ready to go to her new home! 💚

I’ve been redecorating some areas of my living room this week. For me, it’s a process of lots of trial and error, so it’s slow-going. But, it’s also so much fun! This little corner is not set in stone yet, because of the antique cloche. At first, I just had the lamp that’s inside it. I love that the base plays so well with the frame on the top shelf. Then, I added the cloche. I like the way it echoes the curves of the buffet and also ties in with a large green glass demijohn I have on the other side of the room. And the lamp just happens to fit inside the cloche perfectly! So, just lamp? Or lamp inside cloche? That is the question I’ll be debating as I live with it for a bit. Feel free to give your opinion in the comments, and swipe for a closer view of the cloche AND of the sweet watercolor painting by .art (Instagram) that inspired this little corner!

This adorable antique cabinet has been lovingly enjoyed by its owner since 2019, when I first refinished it. And now, to make room for an inherited piece, it’s available again! It’s painted in a matte creamy white with some distressing around the edges. The turned legs were stripped and refinished. The original glass from the door has been removed making a beautiful open display cabinet for ironstone, books or collections. Measurements are approximately 16” deep, 46” wide and 60” tall. Price is $395. This cabinet can be seen at Jo&Co in downtown Wellman during open hours, or by appointment. See comments for another view and send a message with questions or interest!
