A deeper walnut-toned finish gave the different woods enough depth to finally read as one cohesive piece — while still letting that gorgeous oak grain show through. First, I stained the entire piece with Jacobean, then sealed with Seal Coat so I could apply some toner (just on the drawers). But, I wasn’t happy with how it looked, so I wiped the toner back off with some lacquer thinner and then tried a coat of Dark Walnut gel stain, and that worked much better! Finally, I sealed everything with a matte poly. Not the original plan, but absolutely the right choice for THIS piece!
