My favorite part of being a woodworker is having folks ask me to help them with a special need or project such as small furniture repairs, contribute products to silent auctions for local charities, or making things for their homes or as presents to others. Since starting Dieterhaus Woodshop Creations a few years ago I've had the opportunity to do such things as build TV stands, make a custom order birdfeeder for a Roanoke County fireman, fix a runner on a child's rocker, re-cane a seat for another antique rocker, make speaker stands for a home theater, and so much more.
Yesterday, I finished a small box for a customer to be used as a rosary bead container to be gifted to a newly confirmed Catholic. It is made with Purpleheart, Yellowheart and Cherry woods and measures 3"x6" at the base with a 2"x5"x2 1/4" inside dimension.
I'd love to work with you if a need arises so feel free to contact me to discuss any project or need you may have. I work alone but am in a place where I can spend several hours each day in my shop which is outfitted for millwork and custom work.

I'm naming this one "The Hamilton" in honor of my friend, co-worker, and master craftsman Jerry Hamilton. Every bit of this new box can be credited to Jerry's influence in my development as a box maker. I've copied Jerry's hinge work, his choice of woods, his eye for detail, miter joints, insert tray boxes, sanding techniques, and choice of finishes. Jerry recently retired from woodworking and has been selling or giving away his tools, supplies and leftover wood. He made the top for this box and gave it to me stating that it was "an experiment" that he never got the chance to complete. The minute I first saw it, I could see the entire box in my mind's eye and so here it is in the real world. Like Jerry, it's a one of a kind, never to be repeated in nature, treasure. Thanks Jerry!

Hey friends and followers, I appreciate you hanging with me and checking in on my posts. I've been quiet lately due to productive time in the Dieterhaus Woodshop Creations making products for retail locations and for the upcoming craft shows that get underway with Festival in the Park Memorial Day weekend in Roanoke. Here are a few pictures of recent projects that you can find at the Woodshed: Appalachian Crafts and Coffee Cafe and Star MailHub and More. I'm rotating some inventory and am adding new items at each location. If you visit either of these stores and don't find what you were looking for simply ask the sales associates to contact me to place an order.

One-Of-A-Kind Antique Style Coffee Mill

Woods are Black Walnut, Mahogany, Curly Maple and Red Oak. The copper grinder has a ceramic mechanism and is adjustable
for the ultimate grind from coarse to fine. The pullout drawer holds approximately one cup of coffee grounds. All woods were
treated with Odie’s Oil®, a food safe oil/wax mixture that produces a hardened water-resistant finish.

Announcing a new retail outlet for Dieterhaus Woodshop Creations - The Woodshed: Appalachian Crafts and Coffee Cafe at 409 S. Jefferson Street, Roanoke, VA, where you'll find my display of products for sale. Formerly known as Crafteria located on Church Street, The Woodshed opened this past weekend in their new location next to Mast General. Come down to see the store and to do a little Christmas shopping. Mary is also there as Amada Maria Sew Fine Designs in her own space with a lot of her new products for sale.
