One of the things ministry has taught me over the years is that the most meaningful reminders of God's presence are rarely the biggest ones.

More often, they're the relationships we live in throughout our everyday journeys.

As I was working on this piece, I realized it didn't belong on the wall. It belonged in the spaces where life is actually lived. That's what inspired me to take it from a flat wall display to the crosses standing upright.

A cross sitting quietly on a bookshelf.
A small reminder on the corner of a desk.
Something you notice as you head out the door in the morning or as you settle into your favorite chair at the end of the day.

Those quiet companions have a way of changing how we see the ordinary moments of life.

As I was creating this piece, I realized that's exactly what had happened in my own life. It wasn't one dramatic moment that shaped my faith. It was the countless people, conversations, and quiet reminders God placed along the way that slowly changed how I learned to live with His presence each day.
That's my hope for this piece.

Not simply that it would decorate a shelf or a table, but that it might become one of those quiet companions...a simple reminder, day after day, that faith, hope, and love continue to meet us in the ordinary moments of life.

And perhaps, when you place it into someone else's hands, it becomes a quiet companion in their journey as well.

Each piece is unique and leaves its own distinct footprint along the journey God has guided us on.

Those moments and the people we meet along the way have an immediate impact on our lives. Yet years later, we often look back and notice things we never saw before—a pattern in the grain, an edge that made the moment unique, the quiet endurance of what once seemed ordinary.

That's what I found myself thinking about while crafting this piece.

I found myself overwhelmed with gratitude for the people God has guided into my life over the years. Family. Friends. Mentors. Members of congregations I've had the privilege of serving. People who, often without realizing it, helped shape the person I have become.

No two pieces of live-edge wood are ever exactly alike. They each carry their own story, their own character, and their own beauty.

Maybe that's one of the reasons I was drawn to using it for this piece.

It reminds me that every journey is unique, and every life leaves its own mark on the people around us.

My hope is that this piece serves as a reminder not only of God's faithfulness, but also of the people He has placed along our path—those who have loved us, encouraged us, challenged us, and helped us become who we are today.

Over the years, I've journeyed with people in hospital rooms, around kitchen tables, and at gravesides. In every one of those places, people reached for words that were stronger than their own. Scripture has a way of doing that. This piece was born from those moments...

When I first began working on this piece, I wasn't simply thinking about creating something beautiful. I found myself remembering the countless times God's Word had become an anchor for people walking through joy, uncertainty, celebration, grief, and hope.

Some passages seem to become part of our story.

We may hear them at a wedding, return to them during difficult seasons, or find ourselves reading them again years later only to discover they speak to us in an entirely new way.
That's one of the reasons I chose 1 Corinthians 13 as the foundation for this piece.

Not because it's familiar.

But because these words have quietly accompanied so many people through some of life's most meaningful moments.

As I read each engraved line, I found myself reflecting on the countless lives those words have touched—including my own.

My hope is that this piece becomes more than something displayed on a wall.

I hope it becomes a quiet reminder of God's enduring presence, His faithfulness, and the way His Word continues to meet us exactly where we are, no matter where our journey leads.

Thank you for allowing me to share the first piece in what has become a deeply meaningful journey for me.

There are moments in the workshop that remind me why I started Old Rev Creations.

Sometimes it begins with nothing more than a piece of wood, a handful of sawdust, a few well-used tools... and words that have been speaking hope into people's lives for generations.

Every board has its own story. Every piece asks for patience. Every project begins with the hope that, one day, it might become part of someone else's story.

Over the next few weeks, I'd like to invite you into that journey as I share a new collection that has been quietly taking shape in the shop.
I'm looking forward to sharing it with you.

🌳 Every board has a story…

This black walnut tree was already growing before the Civil War.

For roughly 150 years, it stood through changing seasons, witnessed generations come and go, and quietly became part of history.

Today, that story enters a new chapter.
Instead of being forgotten, this remarkable wood will become handcrafted heirlooms—pieces made to gather families around a table, celebrate life's milestones, remember loved ones, and be passed from one generation to the next.

That's one of the things I love most about woodworking.

Every board gets two lives.
The first is spent growing.
The second is spent serving.

And I have the privilege of helping begin that second life.

Now I'm curious…
If you could have one handcrafted piece made from this historic black walnut, what would it be?

🪵 A dining table? 🪵 A charcuterie board? 🪵 A keepsake box? 🪵 A cross? 🪵 Something completely different?

Tell me in the comments. I'd love to hear your ideas—and who knows, they may inspire a future Old Rev Creations project.

Every now and then people ask me, "How did Old Rev Creations get started?

The truth is... it all started because I needed a hobby.

My dad has been a woodworker for years, with much of his work centered around the lathe. Watching him create beautiful pieces always fascinated me. I've always enjoyed making things with my hands, so I knew I wanted to work with wood—I just wasn't sure what that would look like.

So I bought a little 5-watt laser and started experimenting.

Not long after that, my wife found a table saw and a drill press at a rummage sale. We brought them home, and suddenly I had a few more tools and a lot more possibilities.

The first piece I built that I was really proud of was a jewelry box for my daughter. Looking back, I had no idea that little project would become the first chapter of something much bigger.

Friends and family began asking if I could make things for them. Then I signed up for a craft show back in my hometown. People genuinely seemed to enjoy what I was creating, and that gave me the confidence to take a chance.

That's when Old Rev Creations was born.

Now, almost three years later, I'm still amazed at where this journey has taken me. I've had the privilege of creating pieces that celebrate weddings, baptisms, anniversaries, new babies, memorials, and so many other meaningful moments.

What started as "I need a hobby" has become something I truly love.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, encouraged me, trusted me with your ideas, and brought a little piece of Old Rev Creations into your home. I can't wait to see where the next three years lead.

I'd love to know... how long have you been following Old Rev Creations? Was there a particular piece that first caught your eye?

🌲 New Idea in the Shop... What Do You Think?āœļø
Sometimes the simplest pieces speak the loudest.

I've been playing with an idea that combines the natural beauty of the wood itself with the timeless symbol of the cross. Every piece would be made from a real branch, shaped to let the grain, bark, and character of the wood become part of the design.

No two would ever be exactly alike—because no two trees are exactly alike.

I'm thinking these could make meaningful gifts, reminders of faith, or simply a beautiful piece to display in your home.

Before I add these to my next craft show... I'd love your honest thoughts.

Would this be something you'd display in your home or give as a gift?

šŸ‘‡ Let me know in the comments: • Would you buy one? • What size would you like to see? • Should I leave them natural, or offer an oil finish as well?

Your feedback really does help shape what comes out of the Old Rev shop. Thank you!
