This 18x18x36 bioactive is now home to our Crested Gecko, Treecko 🦎 She is currently hiding so, unfortunately, no tiny dino pic. She has never handled transfer well. Treecko is a great example as to why it's a good idea to allow your reptile to warm up to their new surroundings before entertaining the idea of handling, and sometimes, even feeding (she will still be misted twice a day!) Going from one environment to another is extremely stressful for them, so don't push it! Hunger strikes and hiding are very normal. They'll come around 💕 If you feel as though something is off or their weight is dropping rapidly, consulting a reptile veterinarian is always the best option (link in bio!)
In this build, I've included:
•Drainage layer of lecca, a cut w**d barrier cloth, and substrate consisting of 70% reptisoil & 30% reptisand
•Dwarf purple isopods and springtails
•Lots and lots of leaf litter and a lotus pod
•🌱 Money Tree (❗️always untie and detangle their trunks so they don't get choked out! There will be a tie by the leaves, and typically a black tie below the soil. Snip it goodbye!)
🌱 Silver Falls, Philodendron Micans, Golden Pothos held by P&P's Petal Pot, Spider plants, a baby monstera, and Purple Heart Tradescantia!
•Cork logs, spider wood, mopani wood, and sanitized deer antlers! Also, a coconut hide and the rest of her tchotchkes 🪵
I've utilized Great Stuff Cracks & Gaps and Eco Earth's Coco Fiber to create the background. I was originally siliconing the coco fiber to the dried spray foam on the back side of the enclosure, but I wanted to try the embedding method on the left side to see the difference in time and quality. After trial and error, I believe the silicone method works much better for coverage. In the future, I will be patient enough to order Great Stuff Pond & Stone (black spray foam) so it blends in better - oops 😅 but it's all in good fun. I will have plenty of opportunity to try it again... and again 😜🦎
