A frosty morning doesn’t mean your planting season is finished.

Michelle is still planting at home, and there’s a good reason why: frost is not the same thing as frozen ground.

Trees, shrubs and the right perennials can still be getting established while the soil is holding onto warmth. The trick is knowing what still makes sense to plant, what needs more time, and what the forecast is telling you.

Michelle breaks it down in this month’s blog.

Before you bring houseplants or tropicals back inside for the season, don’t skip the quick check.

One of the easiest ways to bring problems indoors this time of year is carrying in pests without realizing it. Michelle’s latest video shares what to look for before plants come back inside — and one of the first things to check is the leaves, stems and soil.

If you’ve got tropicals, patio plants or houseplants that spent the summer outdoors, this one’s worth a watch.

Spring color starts now. 🌷

Tulips, daffodils, alliums and other spring-blooming bulbs may not look like much when they go into the ground, but this is the work that pays off when everything else is just waking up.

Fall is the time to get them planted in Northern Illinois, while the soil is still workable and before winter settles in. Plant in groups for a fuller look, mix bloom times for a longer show, and give yourself something to look forward to next spring.

Need help choosing bulbs or figuring out where to plant them? Stop in and we’ll help you plan it out.

A little work now means beautiful blooms in the spring!

Looking for a little more privacy at home? Start with something that works all year. 🌲

Evergreens add structure to the landscape, stay green through a Rockford winter, and can create a natural screen between you and the neighbors without building a fence.

And fall is a great time to get them in the ground. Cooler air means less stress on the plant, while the soil is still warm enough for roots to settle in before winter.

Not sure what will work for your space? Stop in and we’ll help you choose an evergreen based on the height, width, sun and amount of screening you need.

🐝 This honey has a pretty short commute.

Tucked among everything growing here at TLC are a few beehives of our own—and there's a local partnership behind what happens next.

The bees do their work here. Pecatonica River Honey maintains the hives and brings the expertise to harvest the honey. Then the finished bottles come right back to TLC, where you'll find them waiting on our shelves.

So when you're looking for local honey in Rockford, this is about as local as it gets. 💛

Keep a bottle in the pantry for tea, toast, recipes and charcuterie boards, or grab one when you need an easy locally made gift. Every bottle is also a small way to support local businesses working together right here in our community.

Come see what else is waiting inside TLC. Garden season may change, but there are plenty of reasons to keep stopping in.
