Are your plants turning yellow?

Before you assume they're dying, they may simply be hungry.

Summer growth, frequent watering, and heavy blooming use a lot of nutrients. By late summer, it's common for shrubs, perennials, and containers to need a little boost.

A few things to check:

🌿 Yellow leaves all over the plant? It may be time to fertilize.

🌿 Yellow leaves with dark green veins? Your plant may need iron. A fertilizer with chelated iron can help correct the deficiency.

💧 Always water thoroughly before fertilizing to help protect the roots.

💡 Garden Tip: Will it make a good cut flower? There’s one beautiful way to find out—try it!

Cut a few stems early in the morning when the flowers are freshest, then place them immediately in a bucket or jar of cool water. Bring them into the shade or indoors before arranging to reduce stress on the blooms and help them last longer.

Change the water every few days, remove wilted stems and keep track of which flowers and foliage hold up best. When it’s time to plan next year’s Zone 5 garden, you’ll know exactly which varieties deserve more space!
