Comment “DESIGN” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for making older pieces work in your home without making it look dated.

Your grandma’s house had some things that deserve a comeback and others that need to stay in the past.

Plastic on the couch? Absolutely not.

Fine china? Timeless. People might not use it like they used to, but a beautiful set will always have a place.

Doilies? Their time has passed.

Curio cabinets depend entirely on what you put inside. Beautiful collectibles or china can make one feel classic. A collection of creepy dolls might be a different story.

And those plastic stair runners? Practical back then, but we can officially leave those behind.

Not everything old is outdated. The trick is knowing what deserves another life.

Comment “HOME” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for choosing flooring that can actually handle everyday life.

If you have pets, these are three flooring options worth considering.

Porcelain tile is number one. It’s durable, easy to clean and can handle the messes that come with having pets.

Waterproof laminate and vinyl are another great option because spills and accidents can be cleaned up quickly without the same concerns you’d have with more sensitive flooring.

And yes, there’s even pet friendly carpeting. Certain solution dyed carpets are designed to be extremely stain resistant, with some manufacturers offering warranties specifically against pet stains.

Having a dog doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice having beautiful floors.

Comment “COLOR” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for bringing more personality into your home.

Walking into our showroom is like watching The Wizard of Oz go from black and white to color.

Outside, everything feels neutral. White cars, black cars, gray cars, gray homes, gray rooms. Somewhere along the way, playing it safe became the default.

Then you walk through our doors and you’re surrounded by color, patterns, textures, rugs, furniture and things you probably never would have thought to put together.

That’s why we do what we do.

Your home shouldn’t feel like everyone else’s. Sometimes you just need someone to show you what’s possible.

Comment “DESIGN” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for choosing materials that give your home more character.

Travertine is in. It’s a beautiful natural stone that can work in almost any space.

Unlacquered brass is in. It brings a vintage feel and adds character as the finish changes over time.

Fluted wood is everywhere right now, and for the moment, it’s definitely in.

Velvet is technically moving out, but I’ll always find a place for it.

Rattan is in. It gives a space that relaxed coastal feel and can work with more styles than people think.

The best design doesn’t follow every trend. It mixes what’s current with materials you’ll still love years from now.

Comment “HOME” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for making your space feel more custom and less cookie cutter.

One of the biggest flooring trends we’re seeing on Long Island right now is checkerboard.

Black and white will always be a classic, but everyone is doing it.

If you love the checkerboard look but want your home to feel different, change the colors. Gray and white can give you the same timeless pattern with a softer, more unique look.

Trends are great inspiration, but your home shouldn’t look exactly like everyone else’s.

Comment “DESIGN” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for adding pattern and personality to your home without overdoing it.

Some patterns come and go. Others never really leave.

Greek key is in. It has that timeless, classic look that can work across a lot of different design styles.

Animal print is always in when it’s used correctly. Leopard is iconic, but antelope is another classic way to add personality without making the room feel trendy.

Grasscloth is another favorite because it adds texture and depth to a wall without needing a loud pattern.

The goal isn’t to avoid patterns. It’s choosing ones that will still look good years from now.

Comment “DESIGN” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for choosing finishes that make your bathroom feel more intentional.

Not every tile trend belongs across an entire bathroom.

Zellige can look beautiful as an accent or inside a niche, but covering an entire wall with it can create a lot of grout and an intentionally uneven surface.

Traditional 4x8 subway tile is starting to feel dated when there are so many thinner, more interesting variations available now.

Penny round? Always in. It’s a classic, especially in Victorian homes, showers and smaller powder rooms.

Checkerboard is another timeless look, but you don’t have to default to black and white. A softer gray and white combination gives you the same classic pattern without making your bathroom feel cookie cutter.

Comment “DESIGN” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for turning the things you already love into part of your home.

Album artwork is a lost art form.

Vinyl is making a comeback, but the records themselves can become part of your interior design too.

These magnetic Lucite frames let you turn your favorite album covers into a completely custom gallery wall. Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Hendrix, Elton John, Green Day or whatever actually means something to you.

The best artwork doesn’t always come from an art gallery.

Sometimes it’s been sitting in your record collection for 30 years.

Bathroom tile is finally getting some personality again.

Terrazzo is in for me, especially in mid century and modern homes. It’s bold though, and in a smaller bathroom that pattern can easily take over the entire space.

Wood look porcelain is absolutely in. I especially love the darker, warmer tones because homes are finally moving away from the cold white and gray look that dominated for years.

One of the best ways to use it is continuing the same tile from the floor up the wall. It creates a seamless look that makes the entire bathroom feel intentionally designed.

Warm, rich finishes are taking over.

Comment “DESIGN” and we’ll send you some of our best tips for making a room feel more finished and intentional.

A rug can completely change a room without changing a single piece of furniture.

Bare floors can leave a bedroom or living space feeling unfinished. Adding an area rug creates another layer of texture, pattern and warmth while helping visually ground the furniture.

Whether you choose a s**g, flat weave or bold pattern, the right rug should feel connected to the rest of the room instead of looking like an afterthought.

And in a bedroom, there’s a practical bonus too. Stepping onto a soft rug in the morning beats a cold bare floor every time.
