I did an early cull on a few plants to (hopefully) encourage more growth.

On the plus side, I have a decent early crop of jalapenos, white Thai, and black Thai peppers!

Hoping for a great growing year! Seeds are started and the first half of the seedlings have graduated to their final containers before they're ready for the outdoors.

New sauce recipe. Simple and very tasty.

Pineapple Aji Lemon Sauce
10 oz Vinegar
10 oz Pineapple Juice
20 Aji Lemon peppers (mostly seeded)

Combine all ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes.

Let cool and add 1/4 teaspoon Xanthum Gum (to stop the sauce from separating).

Blend and bottle.

My garden has struggled this year, but others have not! I took a trip out to the bro-in-law's and grabbed a great selection.

From sweet to molten-lava hot. It'll be fun to dry these or make a sauce or two.

The first peppers from my other isolation project of the year: Yellow Carolina Reapers.

Two plants were grown from seed in an indoor grow tent with no other plants, ensuring the purity of the genetics

I'm hoping for more ripe peppers in the coming weeks to save for seeds, but these are going to be tasted head-to-head with their red cousins. That's sure to be an exciting day!

Made a few simple sauces to share and let me tell you: sometimes simple doesn't disappoint.

Just peppers, vinegar, water, and xanthum gum (to keep the sauce from separating) in these and they are tasty.

Left to right: Carolina Reaper (2 peppers per bottle), Peach Ghost Scorpion (3 peppers per bottle), and Yellow Scorpion (2.5 peppers per bottle).

I had the pleasure of visiting another pepper grower last weekend and was happy to see that his crop is absolutely thriving.

I was also happy that he let me take a small sample.

I finally got a good family pic of the jalapeno crew. Unfortunately, the purple jalapenos are just not showing to be healthy plants, BUT here are red, orange, yellow, and chocolate jalapenos!
From least spicy to most:
Yellow: almost no heat
Red: normal jalapeno heat, maybe a touch mild
Orange: slightly hotter than a standard jalapeno
Chocolate: even hotter than orange!

It's been my experience that the chocolate versions of a particular variety do run hotter. Anyone else experience the same?

More ripening for the chocolate jalapeno and the peri peri peppers!

That makes 4 of 5 jalapeno colors confirmed to be growing true. I hope to keep all plants healthy so I can get a full family photo later this year with Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Chocolate, and Green (unripe) jalapenos!

Really good red cayenne harvest and I'm either mis-remembering the size or these are monsters! Very full. Biting into one, you get a pop of heat quickly, then a lingering burn.

Not pictured (yet) are a few red and a few orange jalapenos that are ready as well, so looking forward to a spicy weekend!

The first Orange Jalapeno has ripened! It's been a slow year with the rain in May, but we are trucking along.

Later this week, I'll have another big harvest of Red Cayenne as well.
