This glass has WAY too much going on for me to just put the pattern down and start tracing. 😂 I hadn’t decided exactly which section I wanted for the octopus background, so I cut out the stencil and moved the full pattern around underneath the glass until I found the area I liked best.

Technically, I could trace the pattern directly through the glass once I decide on placement… but I’m picky about my lines. 😂 I get a much steadier, smoother outline when I trace around the stencil instead.

And with glass like this, placement matters. Those swirls and streaks are definitely becoming part of the design. 🐙

The glass choices are made… now I’m curious what you all think. 🐙⚙️

I’m definitely wanting to bring a steampunk feel into this octopus as it comes together. What do you think of my glass choices for that steampunk vibe?

Now for the stained glass side of my two-octopus project… 🐙

I pulled my color palette from the inspiration photos I shared in my last video, then started digging through my glass to find what I thought would work.

Same color inspiration as the 3D print… but a completely different way of getting there. I’m really excited to see these two develop side by side.

Do you all think these colors reflect the essence of my inspiration photos from my previous video? And what do you think of that black iridized Baroque? 🐙

There’s something ridiculously satisfying about removing supports from a 3D print… especially when there are THIS many. 😂🐙💀

A little support removal ASMR while this octopus and skull finally emerges from all that extra plastic.

This one isn’t quite finished yet though… I have something in mind for where I’m taking it. 👀🐙

It’s a good thing I actually enjoy foiling… because textured glass definitely requires a little extra patience. 😂

There’s something really satisfying about working the foil down into every little dip, curve and detail and getting it to hug the glass the way it should.

But then again… I’ve always loved the detailed parts of making stained glass. Give me something slightly tedious that requires me to sit there and fuss with it until it’s right, and apparently I’m happy. 😂

And THIS glass was absolutely worth the extra work. That texture in the finished Victorian Plague Doctor is just… chef’s kiss.

Don’t forget about our Little Free Library! 📚💙

We have a little take a book, leave a book library tucked inside The Curiosity Shoppe… but here’s the important part: you absolutely do NOT have to leave a book to take one!

I have plenty of books waiting for their turn on the shelves, so if you see something you’d like to read, please take it home and enjoy it. That’s what they’re here for!

I’m adding a few more today, including some books for younger readers and a couple of devotionals for teen girls. 📖

And of course, if you have books you’ve finished and would like to pass along, you’re always welcome to add to the library too.

Take one. Leave one. Leave none. Just keep the books moving and being enjoyed. 💙

A little Labor Day weekend shop update! 💙

The Curiosity Shoppe will only be open a half day today, and our usual First Saturday will be postponed until NEXT Saturday, September 12th, as I’ll be traveling out of town for the holiday weekend.

In the meantime… enjoy a peek at some of our newest creations! I’ve got lots of fun things coming together around here, and I can’t wait to share more.

Finished!!! My Romantic Victorian Plague Doctor is officially done, and I LOVE how different he feels from the Dystopian version. 🖤

The funny thing is… I don’t think I could choose between them.

They hit two completely different sides of the things I’m drawn to — even down to the books I love. Give me something dark, gritty and dystopian… but also give me romantic, moody, beautiful and a little gothic. Apparently I need both. 😂

Same pattern. Two completely different personalities.

I have been absolutely loving ’s patterns, and this one was SO much fun to work with… especially getting to take the same design and see just how completely different I could make it feel with the glass choices.

So now that they’re finally side by side… which one are you choosing — Romantic Victorian or Dystopian?

Cleaning up all that flux after soldering… one of those not-so-glamorous but very necessary parts of stained glass. 😅

I start with Kwik Clean, give everything a good scrub with a toothbrush to get the flux out from around the solder lines and all those little crevices, then wipe it down. After that I go back over it with Kwik Clean and a microfiber cloth to really buff everything out and make sure I haven’t missed anything.

But this time I decided to try something new…

I’ve seen other stained glass artists use a little square of Magic Eraser to apply their patina, and I like trying different techniques now and then just to see if I might like something better than the way I’ve been doing it.

And… I was actually pretty impressed.The patina was really easy to apply this way and those solder lines got NICE and black.
