2025 Title 24 Energy Codes for Windows and Doors, effective January 2026

The U-Factor has decreased from 0.30 to 0.27. The lower the number, the more energy-efficient a window is. U-Factor measures heat transfer through the glass, reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.

To meet these new requirements, an additional coating is applied to the glass. Some glass manufacturers apply this coating to the 2nd surface, while others apply it to the 4th surface.

4th surface coating will be scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof. Do not use razor blades or chemicals on these windows. A high-quality ammonia-free window cleaner, such as Sprayway, is recommended. Sprayway is now widely available at local hardware stores, Target and Walmart.
