PSA: Now is the time to plant your garlic for next year!!!
They need to over winter in the cold but be planted before the 1st frost. For our zone late sept/ early oct is recommended.

It’s also a good time to plant cabbage, collard greens, snow peas, all kinds of lettuce & Cilantro. Everything that bolts in our Texas heat.
It’s also time to harvest any dandelions u still have growing.

2nd week of “kids craft day” was a success!!!
They all got to drill, sand & paint.
I took 6 kids to the gas station (I plead insanity) but over all, they all had fun, got to use some tools they haven’t used before, and they all go home with a wall plaque they are proud of. 🥰

Idk what to call it yet. But 1st session of “kids day out” was a successful fun evening!! We did tie dye shirts! They had a blast & are so proud of what they made! (They we’re so excited they wanted to put their shirts on before they were fully dried 🥰🤦🏽‍♀️😂)

There were snacks, treats, water trampoline, & lots of laughter!!! (Ignore my middlest child that chooses to look grumpy for pics when he’s really having a great time 🤦🏽‍♀️)
I can’t wait for our future dates (paper making, crystal rock candy, bird houses & so much more!)

due to the storm I’m missing a couple of the littles I hoped to see today, but can’t wait to have them next time 🥰

I’m not the one that’s going to act like there are no garden fails. …
I had to dig up ALL my garlic. Apollo kept laying on them. But I’m also wondering if I planted too late, and it was too hot for them to bulb? I’ll try again in September. But I’ll take these little babies, mince them up, & freeze for cooking. And save a few out for fresh salads this week.

Also- my squash/ zucchini bed broke me out in a rash. Feels like a thousand itchy needles. In all my years & years of gardening these things I’ve NEVER had a reaction. So I’m confused. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

But hey! We live & learn, we do better & gardening is ALWAYS a learning adventure. Happy gardening my friends!

It’s not the prettiest.
But when it hits about 105 or over some plants really can’t handle it. No matter how much u water.
My tip is: SHADE CLOTH. I got this on clearance a couple years ago. It’s 50 percent but I highly recommend 70 percent. I go out between noon & 3 sometime. Just throw the cloth over, and leave until sundown, then remove until the next day. (U could just leave it on if u don’t have the time to put it up daily)
It’s UGLY but it’s worth saving the plant babies!!!
Happy gardening my friends! Stay hydrated & take breaks!

Reasons why I chose to use pallets for the garden:
1) they are FREE & abundant!
2) much more cost efficient to fill than large raised beds
3)being a shallow raised bed without a solid bottom allows the roots to grow deep into the actual ground, allowing roots to get more water, saving $$ on the water bill.
4) it’s VERY easy to amend the soil as needed - u can have totally different soil types contained in their own beds.
5) the wood gives a place for the lower produce to sit safely off of the ground. Avoids rotting.
6) on HOT HOT days, I can quickly spray down just the wood to cool the whole area & add humidity when the plants don’t really need water but it’s just too hot for them to do well. (It SIGNIFICANTLY lowers the garden temps!!)
7) it’s easy to organize & group plants where u want them
8)it’s easy to add vertical supports and put shade cloth or plastic for a cold frame
9) makes a fantastic standing spot to avoid getting muddy when watering
10) if your like me- and sometimes either get overwhelmed by the garden, and can’t find a plan to start weeding/pruning OR you get hyper focused & will abandon all other responsibilities to DO IT ALL- it helps with both bc u can set a goal for a pallet or 2 or however many, and just accomplish that.
11) it really helps with pests/bugs getting to the plants. Or getting stepped on ect.
+100 more reasons!!!
It’s not the prettiest, but it’s not the ugliest either.
& when u can’t afford rich people s**t- u make the best out of what u can!

This is my 3rd year pallet gardening. I added 5 new ones this year (totaling 15) and I plan to add 6-8 more next spring!! If ur looking for cheap gardening beds, I highly recommend giving it a try! Happy gardening y’all!

I went ahead and harvested 1 of my onion beds this morning. Some weren’t as big as I would like, but Apollo would NOT stop stepping on them, & they just weren’t going to grow much more. So I pulled them to let them cure, I’ll be building a fence around this bed, & replanting more.

We also already have a pumpkin! 🧡…. Bc my boys love to toss seeds and produce scrap everywhere so this volunteered in the garden & its soooo cute! Giving fall vibes on this hot day!
Happy gardening my friends!

ALL GROWN FROM THE GARDEN. Salad hits different when u go pick EVERY ingredient from your yard. 🥰 (wishing I had carrots, but I know soon I will!) but the harvest basket is over flowing and keeping us fed good food daily!

I really and honestly tried (for 2 hours to do a “blended, kind-of-realistic painting”

And that’s just not who I am. It’s not my strong point. It brings me no happiness. I hate almost every minute of it. (Insert pic of unfinished garage mural bc the boys begged me to and I just haven’t been feeling it the past 2 years 🤦🏽‍♀️😫)

I WANT to do a large scale cartoon mural. And I’m going to give myself this one. 🥰💯 I’ve poured my blood sweat and tears into this salon. It’s time I poured some passionate creativity. 💯💪🏽

Peep the last pic! 1 cactus done. 8-10 more to go 🤦🏽‍♀️🥰

Been DYING for one since I found out they exist!
Delivery & install will probably be a month. But that’s ok. I know it’s coming. 🥰 Roscoe Ranch really going to be repping the purple & white! 💜

My desert willow got planted in ground today.
And it may not seem like much right now. But to me and the boys it’s an investment in the future. A long term goal. This tree will grow and shade our struggling rose bushes and our too sunny front porch. And add a show of purple flowers to our front yard forever.
Apparently I got it for an absolute jaw dropping steal of a deal!!! (it’s the tree I had to buy for emotional support a few weeks ago🥰)

“We don’t plant trees for ourselves, we plant them for our grandchildren” or whatever the quote is I can’t remember.
This tiny 4 ft tree made it’s way to it’s forever home today hoping that children and grandchildren can enjoy it’s beauty many years in the future. 🥰
