🌈 Sometimes a picture says more than I ever could.

I looked at this today—Abby Herbert working on the storefront, and that rainbow seeming to wrap itself right around The Velvet Squirrel—and I couldn’t help but feel like it was God’s way of reminding us that we are encircled by His love and protection.

This little shop has been quite a journey already. There have been exciting days, frustrating days, lots of decisions, a few changed plans, and more than a few moments when I’ve wondered if I was ever going to get everything done.

And then there was this. ❤️

I think I’ll keep this picture forever. 🌈🐿️

A different kind of first today. 🐾❤️

I spent part of my morning volunteering at the Rushville Animal Shelter today, and I got to take my very first dog out for a walk.

Meet Veteran. ❤️

We explored the trail, did plenty of sniffing, and Veteran eventually decided he’d gone quite far enough and plopped himself down for a well-earned break. 😂

With so much of my time lately going into getting The Velvet Squirrel ready to open, it felt really good to spend a little of today doing something completely different—and giving this sweet boy some time outside.

Not antiques. Not vintage. Just a really good morning.

And Veteran made it an especially good one. ❤️🐾

You’ve seen the wallpaper. Now here’s a little peek at what’s beginning to happen in front of it. 🤎

Old things. Beautiful things. Quirky things. Things with stories.

I’ve been gathering, painting, wallpapering, pricing, rearranging… and then rearranging again. Little by little, The Velvet Squirrel is becoming the place I’ve had in my head for a very long time.

There’s still plenty to do before I open the door—but I thought it was time to let you peek inside.

And this is only the beginning. 🐿️
