đŸȘ„An unedited farewell to one of my favorite “witchy” gallery archives

I get to achieve amazing history! In celebration of this year’s 400th anniversary of Salem, Massachusetts, Altar Room presents a collection of incredibly scarce pieces with the iconic Salem “witch on a broom” emblem. In the 1880’s-1890’s RH Robson made and sold bicycles in Salem, Massachusetts. He used the popularity of the area’s Salem Witch Trials lore by branding his bicycles the ‘Salem Witch’ and ‘Salem Scorcher.’ These bicycles became staples of the North Shore market during the Golden Age of Cycling.

·An original 1890’s Salem Witch Bicycle Badge “Made by R.H. Robson, Salem, Mass.
·An original Witch Century 1896 Gold Plated Medal. - J. Harriott Boston stamped on back
·An original Witch Cent’y 1897 Gold Plated Medal - J. Harriott Boston Stamped on back.
·An original late 1800’s League of American Wheelmen fob/pendant with red gemstone in the center and a mother of pearl wheel that turns/spins.
·All are unrestored original patina

The two Witch Century Gold Plated Medals (1896 and 1897) were from a 100 mile (century) bicycle ride that was organized along major historical routes in the Portsmouth area, with an obvious link to the Salem Witch bicycle brand.

OWN A MAGNIFICENT PIECE OF HISTORY
Original Funeral Display Casket. Late 1800’s child-sized solid wood coffin. Traditional tapered form with hinged opening to a fabric shroud inside. Black finish and fitted with decorative metal hardware and escutcheons. It has the original silver engraved metal memorial plaque reading “Our Darling”.
***
Historical Information
It was highly common for families to remove the decorative metal plate right before interment. These plaques were taken home, framed on velvet backgrounds, and prominently displayed on home parlor mantels as a keepsake of the deceased. Today, surviving examples of “Our Darling” plaques AND their matching caskets are rare. Many were lost in time, and those that remain are prized by collectors of mourning antiques, Memento Mori, funeral history, and history designers. Dimensions: 63.25”h x 15.5”w x 10.25”d.
