Sunday was a tremendous amount of fun.

A warm THANK YOU to Tom Herzberg who spent the afternoon painting, chatting, and explaining the details of his craft and creations. Joining Mr. Herzberg were alumni of the American Academy of Art, a Chicago college that closed in July 2024 after 101 years of operation.

This was one of the most fascinating and captivating conversations to listen to - especially as an outsider - as professionals dived into the weeds of gouache, paper, and brush styles. We even learned about the nine different kinds of wrinkles.

Thank you to everyone who came to see, visit, and participate in an extraordinary learning experience.

Tom Herzberg paints live this Sunday — come watch

Tom Herzberg will be at Industrial Treasures this Sunday, October 11, painting watercolors live from 1 to 5 PM. He'll be formally introduced at 2:00 PM with a short Q&A to follow.

If you've seen him work before, you know it's worth watching. If you haven't, it's one of those things that's surprisingly hard to look away from — watching a painting develop in real time, in a space full of interesting objects, is a different experience than looking at finished work on a wall.

Scarecrow Weekend runs through Sunday, so if you're already planning to be in St. Charles, we're just around the corner from the Motorcycle Museum on North Avenue — a short drive from downtown.

While you're here, the store has a few things going on right now that are worth seeing on their own: a Victorian Gothic Halloween tree, a full-size fiberglass pink horse, and The Percolator — a motion-activated light sculpture by Randy Grant set to Chicago house music. It tends to get a reaction.

We're open Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM. Tom paints from 1 to 5.
