There’s just something about old books this time of year.

Cool nights, earlier sunsets, a lamp on in the corner…I’m convinced every end table needs a slightly unruly stack of old books on it.

A great collection just came into Metz, and some of these are worth buying for the aesthetics alone….beautiful old cloth covers, illustrations, worn spines and all the character that comes with books that have been around for generations.

And then there’s the centerpiece: 36 volumes of Charles Dickens.

Whether you actually read them, decorate with them, stack them on a coffee table, or just appreciate a really good-looking old book we’ve got a pile worth digging through.

Fall is old book season. I don’t make the rules.

Homecoming weekend at SCSU is here …and I’m using the Metz & Co. page to do a little recruiting for one of my favorite things in St. Cloud: Huskies Volleyball!

This is my 15th year behind the microphone as the Public Address Announcer, and I still think college volleyball is one of the most exciting sports to watch in person.

So…let’s get some new fans in the building!

1960s MCM glory.

A bright red Seth Thomas clock. A stack of vintage Ian Fleming James Bond paperbacks. And Charlie Brown reminding us that apparently friendship was hard to come by in the ’60s, too.

Three completely unrelated finds that somehow look like they’ve belonged together for the last 60 years.

Fresh finds at Metz & Co. and exactly the kind of weird little vintage combination that makes us happy.

Well, it appears we’re doing something completely reasonable and responsible again… starting another vehicle project.

Which means, sadly, it’s time to find a new home for Phylis, our 2001 Mercury Villager Sport.

Phylis hasn’t been with us very long, but she has absolutely earned her keep. This old girl can haul a ridiculous amount of stuff. She’s been a lifesaver on more than one vinyl buying adventure, swallowing up boxes and boxes of records like it was nothing and hauling them back to Metz without complaint.

We’re genuinely going to miss her.

But a new project has entered the chat, and Phylis has been nominated to help fund it.

So, in a beautiful example of the circle of life at Metz & Co.:

Phylis gets sold → money goes into new vehicle → new vehicle inevitably gets used to haul more old stuff back to Metz.

It’s a flawless business model. Please don’t examine it too closely.

This big old Coca-Cola sign has definitely lived a life and that’s exactly how we like them.

Marked A.A.W. 9-39, dating it to September 1939, this beauty is pushing 90 years old. Original wood frame, plenty of honest wear, and that classic Coca-Cola script that somehow still pops after all these years.

We gave it a careful cleaning and brought that red back to life, but we’re leaving the bumps, scratches and patina right where they belong.

Vintage Hot Wheels Redlines!

Hot Wheels debuted in 1968, and the early cars became known as “Redlines” for the red stripe around their tires. Produced from roughly 1968–1977, they’re some of the most collectible vintage Hot Wheels today.

We just had a great little group roll into Metz ….well-loved, played with, and exactly how we like finding them.
